Hopefully at the end of the summer i will be getting my bottom end rebuilt. I was just wondering, How much WHP will you lose by getting the 8.8:1 pistons?

about 5-6whp. take off or add about 4% for each compression point taken away or added.

If you are going turbo and want pistons .. Do it all at once or suffer with low HP and probably not a very good running car.Just an idea.
8.8:1 is really low for a NA car.Its low even for a turbo car unless you are running high levels of boost. Now if that is the plan is to run high levels of boost then go for it but I would suggest doing pistons, rods and cams as well as all fuel upgrades and the turbo all at once.

i didnt even notice he was already turbo... then you can easily counter the loss of power by raising the boost. but 8.8 isnt low compresion for a turbo car. dont the 1g's come stock with like 7.8:1 compression pistons? and the 2g's come with i thought like 8.6:1. i might be mistaken but i think those are the turbo compression numbers.

1g is 7.8:1
2g is 8.5:1

8.8 is not low for a turbo car. It's actually a pretty good ratio, but if you're running really high boost or spraying, you'll probably want lower compression pistons.

Yeah he's actually been turbo'd longer than you or I have. But I guess he didn't update his profile till recently. Before he was repping an NT and virgina, now its a turbo'd NT and Washington baby.
Keith, you better be at the meet on June 11th
And you should probably go with the 8:6:1 pistions. Kyle could probably get em for ya

7.8:1 Doest sound right for a 1G.. If thats the case then why did my Pistons get raised?Cause mine now are 8.8:1 and I run about 18 Psi Daily. They are working just fine for me.I alway heard they were like 9.1:1 stock on a 1 G and the 2 g wasnt much better.Infact I remember reading that somewhere.I have to look into it again.

Jsut doesnt make sense to me..

Ok so back on topic.. Since you are turbo already then it should be fine.I wasnt aware of you already being turbo.Just make sure you have all your fuel mods done to support whatever boost you are pushing.

Yours got raised because you aren't running stock pistons. You heard wrong, first gens are 7.8:1 stock. 2g is 8.5:1 stock. Evo 3's had 8.8:1 stock.

Higher compression will always make more power. However, your margin of error in tuning shrinks exponentially with a rising CR. It will also lower the amount of boost you can safely run.

Thanks for the replies, i didnt know that the HP loss was so small?! anyway, randy, ill be there for sure june 11th. i need to tune BADLY!!! i was out tonight and you could friggin smell the richness many feet away ROFL

Same here, I looked at my wideband when I was testing the road that we were running on last night, and it was like .83 and I even saw drop to .78, thats rich considering its spposed to be at .92

I just got finished with a rebuild the stock 420a ratio is 9.6:1
Lowered it to 8.8:1
I have the service man. w/specs :sneaky:

I got the 8.6:1 JE pistons. I lag really bad under 2k but after that....woohoohoo! fun stuff.

I deffinatly noticed with my new motor that I don't have near as much power at launch, but thats ok... like I said... after 2k... oh yeah!

So are the JE's the way to go? or the weisco? I cant figure out which one will be the better choice?

I am running 9:1 CR and Up to 21psi on a evo316g. I have not had anyproblems with the high CR. Just make sure that you are always running good gas 91+ and you will be fine.

P.S.
Weisco Pistons on an NT block.
