ok...lemme know if i got this right, i have searched and im an just overwhelmed... building my fuel system, need a lil help. 97 RS going turbo, buying parts in sections, down to the fuel system. i need some help with all the fittings and crap, heres what i got so far.

Pump>female 6an hose end>ss hose>female 6an hose end>earls fuel filter>female 6an hose end>ss hose> (unknown gender) 4an hose end>fuel rail> (unknown gender) 4an hose end>ss hose>6an hose end> FPR> 6an hose end> ss hose> (unknown gender) 4an hose end

It gets really weird where i have to connect to the fuel rail and then from the rail to the fpr and then to the return line?????? any help would be appreciated.

I created this diagram when I was doing my fuel system a month ago, this should answer any questions.

Sweet, that helps a bunch.
I heard someone say you put the FMU between the factory fpr and the fuel rail, which means you would never get anymore fuel than the factory fpr wanted you to have. Plus the 97's seem to be a bastard year of great confusion anyway. Best to forklift the old system and start fresh from what I can see.

One question I have is, who makes an aftermarket fuel rail for the 420a? I know OBX does, but ive been less than thrilled with my other OBX purchases. I know venom makes one but its outrageously expensive. What the rail of choice?

Nice diagram!

I have the Venom fuel rail and it works great.. OBX and SSautochrome :notgood: There should be a sticky about those two brands.

Cheapest Ive seen the venom is 145$. Did you get a better deal on it than that?

The stock fuel rail is perfectly fine to use, and i heard the obx fuel rail does not fit our intake manifolds so you would need to get the obx intake manifold as well.

I've got the obx rail and the intake and let me tell ya that they don't fit together either.I had to modify both to get them to work together :notgood:

So Ive got the walbro installed, upgraded the power wire (which makes a huge difference), grabbed the Fmu and sat down to figure this crap out.

The reason I mentioned wanting an aftermarket fuel rail was that I have a 97 and there isnt any "return" line from the stock rail. There is the bleed valve, which I have seen people use but that kinda scares me. Would a rail from a different year 420a have a better rail to use insofar as supply and return line fittings?

when you are talking about this bleed valve, are you talking about the thing on the end(passanger side) of the fuel rail? if so, just take out the schrader valve thats in it, and its got a nice 4-an male fitting on the end of it to hook up to. works fine, thats what i used for my nitrous. you dont need an aftermarket rail.

Okay, I will give it a whack. Dont know what a 4 an male looks like, so it will probably click when I get one in my hand.
Right now all I can picture putting on there is a bicycle pump. Which is what the "winged cavaliers" in my town would probably do.

haha its the same as a 1/4 flare fitting. just get a schrader valve remover($.99 at autozone) and pull it out, but you may get som fuel out of there.

i bought a obx fuel rail and had to send it off to get it plumbed to get the fittings right. best one so far i have is the venom. it was easy.

i bought a b&m fpr and inserted the stock fuel spring had to cut it in half but got the fuel pressure to 10-20 psi and works fine just had to hook up a safc and runs fine.

Okay so I got all the fittings and hose you spec'd out. Im not having very good luck getting the hose in the fittings. When I do get one together I can pretty much pull it apart with my hands. Any helpful hints on those auto-fit ends?

they are a pain, mine looked as if they have threads on em so you just screwed em on with a wrench, i also had some other ones, that were thread less, use some oil and then just work them on with a screw driver shoving the mesh outerlayer into the fitting. then using a wrench and rotating them while shoving the hose in. it is a real pain, just lube em up real nice...... :sneaky:

Thanks man.
Now its just a matter of getting the D*mn washer resovoir out of there. Although im feelin pretty clever about that:
Didnt want to sacrafice the washer fluid, and I distinctly remember shaving the rear wiper and not pulling out the rear washer resovior. So I just ran a line from the back to the front and changed the wire. The only drawback is the rear one wont hold the two gallons that the front will but hey! at least I still have one to use.
