I called Hahn today....WOW! the portfueler is 1200.00 shipped. Is there any place that might be cheaper? sometimes buying direct from manufacture isn't always better or cheaper. I don't have a problem with buying it at that price but if I can save a few bucks great.

Hahn's makes the portfueler... Its still a rather new item on the market so I doubt if any other vendors carry it, it would be less than what Hahn sells it for.

i like the MS also
but after all of the supporting mods

injectors, aeromotive 1:1, wiring harness, air and coolant sensors, plus while you are in there might as well upgrade your fuel lines, plus a wideband

you are almost at the cost of the PF

i figured it out one day that if i get used 440cc injectors i could get the MS system for about 7-8 hundred

not a lot of difference
granted 400 bucks difference is a lot and the MS is much more powerful
but harder to install

i am still on the fence myself

Go standalone period. The long term cost of any will be about the same... The MS is cheap at the begining but like Baxsom said the cost of all the other parts add up. The portfueler is way over priced for the crappy software that you get

I still like the MS though...as I took from one of your recent posts baxsom: http://www.rs-autosport.com

Depending on how much boost you're running, stock injectors would be fine for awhile. Widebands aren't that expensive if you don't look for the ones that do all the fancy stuff and datalogging as well. This way you have the ability to add things and upgrade over time as needed, instead of having to throw down all that money at once.

I also believe the portfueler is overpriced, especially with the problems and etc. I've read that people have had with it too. :thumbdown

Oh well...to each his own I guess.

the only true advantage that i see with the portfueler
is that you can expect CELS with the megasquirt
mainly because you unhook the stock injector harness
there are of course ways around it
resistor packs etc
what it was suggested that you do is keep a harness with a set of injectors in it and just plug them into the stock harness and tape them up someone under the hood
the ecu will still send a signal to them to fire
and
short explanation no cel

there are about 5 different free programs that you can use with the MS
including one that allows you to use a palm pilot

i think that most people are using megatune though
hahn charges you 50 bucks extra for their editing software

if you really like the 8 injector setup though
2gnt.com always has people who are selling their own diy kits
for pretty cheap with a brain almost identical to the PF's

when I called hahn about the kit he ask what turbo I was running, I told him a turbonetic's T3 he said he was sorry I bought that...I find nothing wrong with turbonetics. He explained the portfueler to me, sounds very easy to install and go...if it really works like that I wouldn't mind the price. DSM-ZERO explained fuel systems to me and now I have a clue how they work. The way he has his set-up I think is simple straight to the point and worth the money vs. the portfueler. I'm looking into all my options...what I'm considering now is...I have over 4k into my star kit and I haven't even used it yet. I'm building my motor now which is more money and to break motor in it would be best not to boost over 10psi until broke in. So if I can use my vortech FMU until motor is broke in I can save some cash instead of VISA sponsoring...LOL, my portfueler or DSM-ZEROS set-up AFPR, larger injectors which ever I decide to go with. The AFPR set up is pocket change to portfueler but will handle boosting. So I'm finding options...I usually like things that are pricey and have alot of features and I know nothing about...but simple might be the way to go here.

IMO....

Portfueler is the way to go. Granted $1200 bux is a lot, but the Megasquirt's system will cost you around $1000 at least to completely get together. Your car will have CELs without question. The system is in no way for beginners and is dificult for even a compitent person to setup and install. Also.. if you experience any problems with the Megasquirt, your car wont run. With the portfueler.. even if you have problems with the car or the fuel setup, you can still drive the car because the car is controlling the stock primary injectors.

Im very happy with my portfueler. The map you get needs to be tuned, but HRC has done a great job in ensuring its 100% ready for any boost you can throw at it out of the box.

I just wish that the PF had datalogging capabilities or could self correct its A/F ratio to a target number
at least then you wouldnt have to pay a tech with a dyno to tune it

but siueclipse does have a good point
it is much simpler to install with not near as many wires to hook up
and even though the base map may not be perfect
it will get you boosting

The datalogging part of it is not a big deal to me, as I am getting the Zeitronix Zt-2 wideband setup, which does it's own datalogging. Even after all the reading I've done until now, I didn't know there were so many problems and what not with the megasquirt. Looks like a might go with a basic setup of an adjustable FMU or somethin until I can convince my wifey that the portfueler is a mandatory item :p

Has anyone ever thought of the EIC

I thought that the portfueler module and the EIC were almost identical
they just make it prettier with their injector mounting system and put their name on the computer parts

there are a lot of custom fabbed 8 injector setups for sale
going for 4-5 hundred on 2gnt
that would work with the hahn computer i believe

you could always get one of those and hahn electronics to cut costs

the EIC is just like HRC's AIC.

You can buy a used 8 injector setup and just buy the HRC AIC and be done with it, but the HRC manifold plate they send beats the crap out of someone drilling holes in their intake manifold. The more direct spray that the hrc portfueler gives is way better than a custom drilled manifold.

very true
but if it works
in the end that is all that really matters
i personally want it to look as well as it works so i am going with the whole portfueler system and hahn does let you take parts out of the kit
so if you already have a 1:1 or injectors, fuel fittings etc

it doesnt hurt the pocketbook so much

oh btw does the PF use High impedence injectors
or low ones

Mounting system is $299
Control Module $259
Stage 4 calibration $49
Hose kit for Aeromotive Regulator $49
Tach adapter $69
Tuning Software $49 since you are not using 415cc or 500cc injectors.

this is if you have a AFPR and injectors...you actually save money by buying these else where. I'm sure if someone on here is nice enough they would hook us up with a copy of software for half the price. ;) but that would be a secret. I'm going to do a little more research on the tach adapter...could probably save money there.

i have been told that the tach adapter that we have to use to put a msd dis2 in our cars will work as well
i would look into the validity of that

that is MSD part number 8912 and normally runs between 55-65 dollars then but occasionally shows up on ebay a lot cheaper

almost as easy just to get hahns

I am very pleased with my portfueler so far, running 12-14psi and seeing egt's no higher than 12, it's def. doing it's job. I was very doubtful at first but soon I will do a baseline dyno for 15psi and will post my results. Then sometime in may I will dyno tune for 20psi hopefully.

I ordered my portfueler and FMIC with all piping today from Hahn. total cost a little over $2000 with shipping and everything. the guy i talked to (i dont remember his name) was super helpful. explained some things to me i didnt know, plus kept me from making a couple of rookie mistakes.

The electromotive TEC3 kit for the 420a list for $2100 and it is a full standalone

I think that is alot for the portfueler

ok, lets disect this statement. a standalone for $2100, that may or may not be the best kit to purchase for a 420a. or a portfueler that is made for the 420a by people that deal with 420a's all day for $1200. lets not forget that i said i got the portfueler AND a full FMIC KIT with all piping, plus a new actuater for my turbo for a little over $2000 (didnt even go past $2100).

NO THANX. i believe i made the wiser choice. Wtf do i need a standalone for anyways. im not running my car at the track every day nor is it for any kind of racing circuit. its just going to be one bad ass daily driver. Thanx for the input though..... WTF :notgood:
