I'm sure this has been covered, but I have SEARCHED for days and cannot find the answers I'm looking for. So please don't tell me to search and read articles unless you have a direct link to this information.

I have a 92 GST, with a blown motor. I also have a 4g63 n/t block sitting in my garage. I was wondering specifically what would be required to convert the n/t block over to a "stock condition" turbo block. Now I know the pistons are different and the n/t block doesn't have oil squirters. What I'm asking is can these parts be directly swapped...is the bore the same and will the pistons fit right in? Can the oil squirters be swapped? Are the piston rods the same (the turbo block broke a rod).

In a nutshell, I simply want to make the n/t block identical to a turbo block. Is this possible, and has anyone ever attempted this before? Thanks in advance for the help.

yeah, they are the same..

I wouldn't worry about the oil squirters, though. It will run just fine. Yes, the n/t 6 bolt rods are big rods too. I'm actually in the process of building up a n/t 4g63. I tore it apart and I'm having 2g pistons pressed onto the rods. Some people choose to use non-turbo blocks for their buildups with oil pressure being the main reason.

Great, that answeres most of my questions, but one more I forgot to ask. What about the cranks? are the n/t and turbo cranks the same?

Thanks for the help!

Cranks are the same, I run turbo pistons and a nt block and crank without squirters.

Cool Deal, that's exactly what I needed to know. Thanks to both of you.

I just built my motor using a n/t block with rods and crank and turbo pistons. I love it.

Just so I have this straight, since I have my block on a stand out of the car...

I can change the Rods and the Pistons, and basically have a Turbo Capable Block?

Also, since I have taken the block out, I have noticed some upgraded things I was un-aware of when I bought the car (from a used car dealer).

Is there a way to tell the difference between turbo and stock rods / pistons?

If, by some odd chance, the engine already has turbo rods / pistons in it, I'd rather not spend the money to buy them again.

Thanks.

The pistons are different but, I do know a guy in my area that uses an entire N/T bottom end in a turbo car without problems. The compression ratio in the N/T cars is slightly higher (the pistons will have less of a dish/bowl look to them) so you'll have to be more careful about detonation. The turbo and N/T pistons are not the same so don't try to mismatch them. As far as I know, the rods are the same though.
