hi i am new as new gets! I am 16 and i just recently purchased a 96 eclipse gs. i had plans to turbo it but now im not so sure... i talked to this guy today that had a 99 eclipse gs and he turbo'd it. he put about 15grand into his car he said to make it be able to withstand the extra power from the turbo. He said if you get a turbo kit and not upgrade your internals your engine will detonate within 20k miles. I was wondering if this was true?? also if someone could get me a link or tell me the complete list of parts i need to turbo my car and about the price that would be great!! and im sorry that the parts list has probably been answerd a number of times but i can never find it all together only in bits and peices THANKS

Yes. Your engine code for you n/t DSM is the 420a. If you do a bit of homework, you will know that once you add a turbocharger, an internal clock begins ticking. Then when that clock reaches 20k mile, your car blows up. No more and no less then 20k mile.

I hope you get the drift from my sarcasm. You engine can blow up 1 mile after the instal or never. It depends on how well the car is maintained and how well it is tuned to handle the boost.

Yeah, as long as you follow the manufacturers recommendations as far as boost and setting up the fuel system, there is a good chance that nothing will happen. Its when people add a boost controller and try to add "just one more psi" and start getting boost happy and keep turning it up KABOOM!

I ran my stage 2 kit on stock internals for over 4 years. I never popped the motor. I do have a built motor now because I wanted more boost.

Just be careful and things should be fine.

don't take it over 4 psi w/out an intercooler (i wouldnt run a non-intercooler set up at all but well some ppl might) and as personal safety i wouldn't take it over 8 w/ an intercooler.

Before you turbo you might want to do a compression & leak down tests to ensure your engine can handle the extra power of the turbo.

The kits for our cars can go one of 3 ways.
1) Hahn Racecraft Motors www.hahnracecraft.com (comes w/ a sidemount intercooler for stage 2 but from what i hear IS AWSOME at customer support.
2) Star don't know the web-site for them but can be purchased at www.overboost.com (comes w/ a fmic standard on the stage 2 but is not known for customer support)
3) You can custom create a turbo kit, but i would not do this if i was you...unless you do MAJOR research (i only say this because you just got your car and are not familiar with the engine)

Good luck!

Your motor will be fine if you turbo it. Ive been turbo'd on stock internals about a year and a half now. I've run lean and i've run rich and still am fine. my motor detoanated on the dyno from running lean but it's still running ok. I tuned it more rich and she runs fine. Yes you can run more than 4psi without a fmic. You can run up to 6 safely without one. You can run 10psi on stock internals with a fmic safely. Dont let him scare you off. if you have any Q's holla at me

if i have to upgrade my internals aftertime what exactly do i have to get ... and i wouldnt get a kit without a fmic dont worry
thanx ERIC

Ya, just giving you a better feeling your eclipse will not blow up LOL if you turbo it below 7psi with stock internals your car will run fine, cant say 7psi is super fast but you will feel a diffrence. A true turbo power is at like 16psi :D , but no to make you feel more safe your car will be fine just stay 7psi or below :thumb:
