I am 17, just got my license about 6 months ago. I am obsessed with DSM's more the 2g but i love 1g too. I didnt have any money at the time of the purchase of my first car. So I looked around and the only DSM I could find was in a very small town 15 minutes away. The car is a 1995 eclipse GS. It had 191,000 miles on it when I bought it OMG now it has 196,000 miles on it :thumbdown . I want to turbo it. My question is, if i do a complete engine rebuild, can my engine hold it. I know that the 420a can suposidly hold up to 300hp without any internal mods, but can mine. I know the engine would be rebuilt but what about other parts. I dont have the money to buy a GST or GSX and if i did, finding one in my small town would be hard, impossible. There are 4 2g eclipse's in my town and 1 talon. Every eclipse is a GS or RS and the talon is an ESI. This town sucks, but I want something to race when I go to a surrounding city or something to shut the redneck boys down at the napa up.

I dont really know much about turbo's but im assuming if u turbo an engine with that many miles it will only lead to a quicker dead engine :thumbdown

yes, u can turbo your car, but i would recommend going ahead and rebuilding your engin with forged internals. and then buy a hahn or star turbo kit. total, your looking at around $6-8k but in the end, a mean ass car.

will you be rebuilding yourself? or will you have a shop do it? the ability of your engine to hold more power is not with how many miles are on it, but what condition it is in. if its beat, it might not do so well... if its in good condtion, you might not have to rebuild right away. do a compression test. but the labor is what will affect cost most. if you do a COMPLETE rebuild... crank, bearings, rods, pistons, and even throw in a top end kit from howell, hell we'll just say a top and bottom end kit from howell for simplicity's sake, it will cost you around $3k. now adding labor to that, im not sure what that would cost, but my guess would be upward of $1.5k? so now your at $4.5k. add that nice little stage 2 kit, your at $7.5K. plus labor, probably around $8k. now with the extreme out, you may be able to just do a bottom end kit, and leave your top end alone for now. ok so the total with labor is about $6k. if you dont need a crank, and use your old one, your down to $5k around. parts alone will be about $4k. if you wanna go with just a stage 1 turbo, it will be about $3k for the turbo kit and bottom end kit. it isnt a very cheap thing to do... just remember what your getting into.

with that many damn miles you better be rebuilding that engine. not just the bottom end either, i would look into a top end rebuild as well if i were you. with it all built up, your car should handle the power fine :dsm:

My mechanic told me that if I help him with the rebuild he will cut the cost in half. And my engine is in pretty good condition. WHen I first bought the car he said that there was no way the engine had that many miles on it. I am almost wondering if the person who had it before me rebuilt it. I'm trying to get ahold of her. I bought it from a bank, it was a repo. How the girl got a 95 eclipse with 191,000 miles on it repoed, I don't know. But hey, cheap car for me.

the money it would take to turbo your car would be more expensive than actually buying a turbo car. If i were you, i would sell that eclipse, and buy a 1g GSX or GST. you can find one with less miles than your car and in decent shape for about 2-3K. If you cant find one in your area, ebay is always your friend, as well as the classified section in this website. :p

ditto.
The only time I would recommend keeping your car is if your parents won't let you sell it, or if it is a great example to start with (<75,000 miles), or if you want to keep the 2G's damn fine looks. You could sell it and get a 1G turbo AWD with lower mileage for the same amount of money.

join me .. im selling mine. I have part of a turbo kit if you want to buy it . Im buying a 97+ gs-t when I sell mine .
