I have a 95 GS w/129k miles on it. Basically I want to rebuild the engine and turbo it. I have about 2 grand to spend, can I get this done with that much money?

With 2 grand you could probably rebuild your block and due some minor head work, but a basic turbo system costs over 2 grand. Just keep saving, I know its hard becasue I'm try to save up for a rebuild and a turbo, and trust me, it takes a lot of patience. good luck

With two thousand dollars to spend you had better just make one choice.

1) Build the bottom end
or
2) Stage 1 turbo kit

Buying the stage 1 turbo kit first will, of course, get you feeling boost sooner (if you have the all-too-existing temerarious itch for speed). A stage 1 kit should be good for about 5 pounds of boost, which is proven to be a very safe boost level for a healthy internally stock 420a motor.

Of course, stage 1 is also a non-intercooled kit. The vigilant part of me just does not like the idea of forcing any amount of un-intercooled boost into an originally unboosted engine. Sure it's been done before, but it just sounds too good to be true if you reside in places where 90+ degree heat is a reality. I might choose to one day run un-intercooled boost to my engine... If I relocate to Antarctica ;)

On the other hand, you do have rather high mileage, so choosing to build the engine first might be the best/safest way to go for your situation. I suggest you first have a compression check done to your engine - find out from there where you want to go after having some idea of your engines current condition.

Best of luck! :dsm:

what do you want to do for the rebuild? just rods and pistons? or stroker? with a stroker kit it will be like $2k. for rods and pistons it will be about $1k. if you just do rods and pistons you will be able to get the turbo sooner.
