I own a 1996 ESI (automatic) :( and I was wanting to add the Star Stage 2 Turbo Kit. Can my stock engine handle it? :talon:

Well, I am no expert; however, from my understanding the stock 420A (GS, and RS) can handle in the area of 300HP, I also am certain that they will be able to support a stage I and a stage II turbo kit without modding the engine. If you were to mod the engine, just replaced the pistons, rings, and rods you would be good for 500HP+ because the rest of the engine is really really strong, much stronger than the 4G63(From what I have read, I am not being a fanboy I am just reciting facts). It is good for up to 10PSI with stock internals, but that would be right on the edge. If you ran like 7PSI you would be good, but it would shorten the life of your engine but if you are going to eventually rebuild then it isn't that big of a deal just don't overdue it.

And once again, this is what I have seen/read....

Ya what he said is all correct. but try a search next time, cause this dead horse manages to get up and start running again, and everyone keeps beating it.

turbo charging the 420 is a good thing alot of people will tell you so. the engine is perfect for "unleashing Power" with the stock internals your car is good for about 225-230hp 7-9psi not any more. with doing the internals replacing the pistons and connecting rods are the main factors that will hold you back in your car. with the replacement of just those two key parts your looking at making close to 350-400hp depending. look into the parts but yes definatly look into the stage 2. the only difference that should be between the kits are the front mount intercooler and i think the bigger turbo option. but if your not looking for more power just stick to the 16g. quicker spool up.

ya our rods are pretty brittle. according to hahn you can push up to 10 psi intercooled and up to 275hp with a stage 2 without new internals, but i think thats awful risky. i would stay lower like what Gary said, unless you got a $1k sitting around to rebuild if something happens. the 16g has a quicker spool up like he said, but the t3/t4 that comes with the star kit can handle more power, so decide which one based upon what your goals are.

(hey, no "I think..." or "i dunno, but" or any of that) ;) haha

Well I planned to buy a rebuild kit with my turbo but what rebuild kit should i buy?
:talon:

Before I spend my money on a Kit i would like to know which kit is the best deal? I want power but i wont just a deal. Thanks :talon:

I was talking to my dad about the stroker kit. And the minute I sad the word he got real quiet. He was like "Stroker kits are wonderful for the track, They can help produce amazing results. The only problem is about every year or so you are going to be replacing major parts. Because of the more wear and tear it puts on your motor." He also told me that's just from his experience and that he has never built a stroker DSM. I think he had a bad experience with a stoker motor once. He used to be really big into old muscle cars. My aunt told me something bad happened but would not say.

ooooooo this sounds like a movie plot.... A young man fresh in the import tuning buisness wishes to race his cars just like his father... but something is holding them back... some deep secret of his fathers past is preventing his father from moving on, and being able to stroke the engines as he pleases... watch this epic tale of a boys courage and detication to unravle the mystery and be the best damn driver ever! haha sorry, but ive never heard of that before.
