I thought if anyone could help me, it would be the great DSM'ers of the country. My friend and I are going to swap a 97 Gs-T 4G63, with my 99 Gs 420A (Slow). Does anyone have any tips or installation help they can give me? Thanks

Well, im gonna do it, no matter what.

I searched for the right section, and seeing as I don't post much, this seemed like the most reasonable.

You guys are brutal, I asked for advice, not attitude.

eh, sorry for attitude, but trust me/us if your brain is anygood then dont do the swap. you only gonna be making 210 hp and think of what your gonna be spending....you might not understand the swap to the fullest. Either buying a 4g63 car or turboing your 420a are much wiser.

lemme explain the swap some, your gonna have to do custom mount work, you need a different tranny, axles, computer, wiring, intake piping, exhaust piping, sensors blah blah blah what ever car you get all this from is gonna be junk afterwards. Its not gonna happen man just forget about it. even if you get it all in there your gonna have to completely wire the car differently, good luck getting that to work. just forget about doing the swap, your gonna regret it, everyone who has went at it drops it and regrets it. some of them waste tons of money at it....do you really wanna do that? This is a swap for a PROFESSIONAL a really extreme one at that, but no professional would swap a 4g63 into there 420a DSM cause its stupid, all the time and money for 210 HP? when you could get a turbo kit and have like 280 HP for less cost and way less time, or if your dead set on losing that 420a you sell the car and get a GST or GSX not go for the swap.

Well then our answers and opinions don't really count for much then do they? Since you have already made up your mind, go ahead. It's easy. Piece of cake. No problems whatsoever. Should be done in a weekend.

You searched for the right section and missed the N/T - Turbo Conversion forum? Hell its a whole forum DEDICATED to this sort of thing.

We gave you advice but you already made up your mind to do it, here is a thread in the forum you didn't find about the swap:

Be sure to read the linked thread at 2GNT.com and ignore the whiney bi*** fest.

a swap is a rape for the pocket :) ... not to mention hella expensive ur better off turboing ... its way cheaper than ur swap idea.

Hey guys, im sorry I got snappy, I didn't realize it would be so much work. I don't want to make any enemies, im sure you guys know what your talking about. I won't go through with the swap.

I was just kind of excited, you guys all seem to have faster cars, and when you have a 140hp maybe 150 with mods, you kind of want to do anything to make your car faster.

My girlfriends uncle is selling his Gs-T. I was going to buy it off him and swap the engines and sell his old car with my engine in it. I know your thinking, well why don't you just buy his Gs-T off of him and sell your car. Well his is a 97, purple one with that nasty tan cloth interior, and black guages. (No offense to any one with any of those listed in their car. I just love my car, it's that pearl silver, silver guage faces, black leather, so I figured an engine swap would be the more logical, but its not looking like it anymore.

Again, I want to apologize for coming off like an ass. Thanks for your advice guys. :dsm:

best thing to do if you like your car alot and want some HP under that hood is save a few grand and get a turbo kit, dont mess with all the other stuff, intakes, headers blah blah blah that stuff is a waste of time and money if you wanna go fast, just save all that money and go straight for the turbo kit, not one of cheapo ones, get like a star stage 2 kit. Save all your go fast car parts money for the turbo kit step 1, get better engine internals step 2, crank the boost up step 3.:thumb: thats the general way to get some ponies in that 420a.

do and compression test and check up on everything to make sure its all in good condition, if its all good, turbo shouldnt cause any problems. Or at least i woudlnt think it would, someone else might know better.

oo its really easy acutally, anyone can do it. The tools for it only cost about 30 bucks. Take out your spak plugs, lay the wires so you can remember what cylinder each wire is. Unplug the ENGINE fuse in the fuse box, this disables the fuel injection so you dont flood the cylinders. Unplug the coil pack, no that important but if you dont do it be carefull not to shock yourself one the spark wires. Go to local autoparts store and get a compression tester kit, should have a guage that goes from 0 to like 200 psi and it should have these things that screw into the spark plug holes and a quick disconnect line that goes between them. Screw the things into the spark plug wells and get the line attached from the well the to gauge. Get a friend to turn the key in the ingnition and let it crank over 4 times, and you watch the gauge, the neaddle on the gauge will go back and forth 4 times the last bounce is the reading, it happens fast like 5 seconds or less fast. repeat for all cylinders. im not sure what he service limit is but lets just say its 130, 130 or lower means you need to get it fixed. the factory psi should be around 170 or something so you want it close to that, if any off the cylinders compressions is more then like 15 psi different from one and other then thats a problem also. if i left anything out please tell fill it in.....O and one last thing, if you get a low reading put a small amount of oil in the cylinder and see if makes the reading better, if it makes it better then your piston rings are prolly bad.

If you cant change a spark plug or youve never changed one, then dont try and do this. O and if you cant change your own spark plugs then i think you should just hand your DSM over to me:) hehe.

What about swapping the interiors? It's a hell of a lot easier than swapping engines. The seats and the interior can all be swapped and you can buy guage faces for the Turbo guage cluster.

yea if your going to buy the car buy it and swap the interior, and sell your gs, it souldent be too hard to swap the seats and interior, not nearly as hard as a engine swap

Thats not a bad idea, but I really like the color of my car, im not to keen on the purple. How much would a good paint job be? Lets say.... Evo VIII Blue.

depends on the shop, i would say the lowest your gonna find for a half decent paint job is a few grand, i had ask a local paint shop that seems good and has a good rep about having my entire car painted a really dark blue and hed said 2grand.
