My summers project is going to be Hanh Stage 1 for my 95 esi.

i have 127,000 miles, but engine is in good condition. anyway had an argument with friends today.

i dont think that for stage 1 or 2 Hahn ill have to do engine internals. They think that if i dont my engine will destroy itself.

for those of you with the HRC kits, did you have to upgrade any internals? how long have you had the kit? did you break anything on your car after installing the kit.

please give me any info that will help me settle this dispute, and also that will reassure me about my cars ability to handle boost.

peace

You should do a compression test first to make sure your rings are still holding up. Boost puts added strain on the internals. You are both right. The HRC Stage 1 and 2 kits were designed to run on stock, non-internally modified engines. I've known people to run years at 10psi and not blow a ring, but it will happen someday. As long as you keep it tuned well (watch your A/F and EGTs), and keep the boost low, you should be just fine with a stock engine that's in good shape.

Now you know you're going to want to crank that boost up within a month, so you might as well start saving for the rebuild. Forged internals are mandatory if you want it to handle more psi.

So there. You're both right. You wont blow your engine if you tune it right and you want to rebuild before you turn up that boost.

You're welcome.

at 5 psi...you will be fine but keep in mind that you have 127000 on the rings and the boost will add strain so i wouldnt go past 5 until you plan on upgrading the internals for more boost
