i did a search found alot of useful information. but it is always nice to start a thread that could benifit a particular question rather then looking at many threads to put together an answer. i am helping my friend turbo his 96 rs. budget is an issue right now. i dont know if anyone has ever taken their car to someone that doesnt know what they're doing (but makes it sound like they do so you trust them) then you end up scraping all the mandrel tubes, and exhaust that the person ruined for you. well this happened to my friend. and i think it could easily happen to anyone. lesson learned is if you want somethin done right you gotta do it urself. but anyway at the moment he has:
custom manifold(not made by the retard that messed up the other stuff)
t3/to4b turbo
tial 38mm wastegate
greddy type s bov
255 walbro pump
12:1 vortech sfmu
isani fmic
apexi N1 muffler
cheap boost guage for now(that he is borrowing)
everything when it comes to turbo and wastegate and 3" down pipe is hooked up 100% perfect and looks amazing no probs there. oil lines done etc...the guy that did the install the first time didnt hook up the fmu right so that is going to be redone. new charge pipes are in the works and so is exhaust. budget is now close to no money to spend.
electric fuel pressure guages are way outa the budget range. what i got when i searched is the fact that mechanical needs to be in the engine bay. for some reason people say that you cant read pressure relative to boost when it is in the engine bay. but what is keeping you from having a person in the car rev it up to full boost when its in nuetral and watching the guage under the hood. would a cheap $20 jegs liquid filled guage do the trick? if it cant be done this way then is it ok when just wanting to run 8lbs boost to set the idle pressure and call it good. the fmu isnt really adjustable other then that is it. unless you change discs, and thats what leads me to my next question.
the idle fuel pressure needs to be around 45-50psi correct? now if the fmu rises pressure at a 12:1 ratio from the idle pressure up, at a full 8lbs it would be making 141psi and that is way too much. or are my calculations wrong. will the 12:1 disc work fine?
any other pointers for getting this car up and running would be great. sorry for the long thread. hopefully no one gets discouraged and doesnt read it. thanks
