Ok, a buddy of mine has a 1g w/ a 4G63 n/t motor, and he wants to turbo it. He knows nothing about mechanical stuff, so he asked if i could do it. I was wondering how hard it is to do the conversion, but just the basic bolt on, no internals or headwork. Ill give a list of what I figured out so far(hes not lookin for big power, he just wants a stock turbo)

14b Turbo
Stock 1g SMIC
Stock 1g BOV
Stock 1g IC Piping
Stock Downpipe
2g Exhaust manifold
MBC
Turbo Inlet pipe
Stock 1g MAS
Boost Gauge

Is there anything else I need?

I don't know about the size of the injectors and if a turbo ecu would be needed.

1g guys?

O i forgot, i am hookin him up w/ my stock 450's...i believe thats how big they are on turbo motors right...

the ecu was my main question...i was thinking maybe there is a map fix for it like on the 420a motors and like the stuff they use on hondas and stuff..it reads boost pressure and alters the MAS signal to the ecu...

or is the ecu the same as turbo, and all i have to do is plug in a turbo MAS...

opps sorry mod....didnt see this forum...thanks for the move

my suggestion... do what i did. find a smashed up turbo car and use it as a donor car. your gonna need a lot of parts! but my swap went flawless, and i now have a 93 laser NT--> T. cool. fast & fun, yet cheap on insurance! all for less than $1250!!!

(entire swap, ECU, HARNESS, motor, tranny, etc)

good luck and i say GO FOR IT!

BTW... it's not as hard as most people will make it out to be. the HARDEST part was fitting the new harness into the car through that small little hole! but it turned out perfect, and looks better than stock under the hood. took our time, and ran all the wires exactly where they should be

u dont really need a turbo ecu.just a fuel controller like an s-afc of hks afr.just need to control the fuel is all.who wants fuel cut and a bcs anyways,LOL.

that is true, you don't NEED a Turbo ECU. however, (i don't remember 100% from mine) don't some of the guages require that ECU? maybe not unless you use the T guage as well. i used my NT guage cluster, and everything plugged in a worked 100% the first time around. no problems!

but if you're not wiring in an AFC right away, get a turbo ECU (which you will likely have if you get a donor car)
