HELP With misfire in 420a...anyone near Bristol,TN?

yesterday the car was driving fine, today i started it up and its misfiring like crazy.at idle it starts at 1.5-2k and seems to stop after that, but while driving its all the way thur the band except for every now and then its like something gives way and i get full power.

i just poped in new plugs and that didn't help so i think its either the coil or the wires..is there anyone near bristol,tn that will let me try theirs out to see if thats it?if so you can email me at talclipse@gmail.com or give me a call at 423 963 6996..

So what your saying is that is does not misfire while idling except on startup?

It may not be your coil at all, it probably is, but it could also be your fuel filter, fuel lines, bad gas, bad injector / loose injector wire, or possibly computer.

If its only doing it while your driving, it sounds like a fuel delivery problem more than a spark problem.

no its always there you just dont feel it at idel till you rev around 1.5k then at around 3k it drops off quite a bit.i dont think its bad gas as i put some in it and drove about 10-20miles before parking it for the night.

Bad gas is easy to rule out. Take a clear, clean bottle, remove the core from the fuel test port and take a sample of the fuel and let the fuel settle for about an hour or two. If anything seperates then you can determine if you have contaminated gas or not.

The days of clogged fuel filters and bad gas are getting less and less common. What you see now days are clogged injectors due to moisture (read that as moisture and not water from a contaminated fuel station) rusting out the fuel system. On the 95 it should be so bad because you've got a return line but on returnless fuel systems, once the fuel is sent to the fuel rail, there's no going back. The only option is to go through the fuel injector. Likewise, any debris such as rust that may develop on the inside of the fuel rail and fuel lines due to this moisture will be pushed in to the fuel rail and thus in to the injectors. This will lead to partially clogging the injectors either at the top where the fuel goes in or anywhere through out the body of it. This is where you MIGHT have an issue with fuel and a mis-fire.

There's still a possibility that you've got worn out wires, you chose the wrong type of plugs to put in the car, you've got loose connections, the coil could be bad or any number of things. You need to give a bit more information like what type of plugs you put in (should be champion or NGK), how old are the wires and what brand are they? Do you have any oil leaks near engine wiring harnesses? How many miles do you have on the car?
