I have a 98 mitsubishi eclipse gs automatic and I was woundering how you raise the shift points or redline, whatever you would call it, because I plan on getting performance cams and I want to raise it by alittle because they allow you to rev higher. Also, yes I know you have to build the whole block to rev to 9grand and I understand that.

I don't know if there is any point... your engine may be out of its power band anyway. (idk about 420a)... but I'm pretty sure its out of the power-band by the time you red line or auto shift anyway.

I had an 85 corvette A/T and had the trans rebuilt. I had the shift points set further back by like 500 rpm because it wasn't shifting at the red line from the factory setup.

I found that my gears just wound out longer, and I suppose it put me higher in the power band in the next gear when shifting at max rpm.

Either way power was flat-lined at like 5500 rpm max maybe between 5000 and 5500. (ts a 5.7 v8 from 85... what you expect?)

Having the shift points set back from like 6000 to 6500 didn't do much except let the engine wind up more. no more power, and I would imagine not much point.

Anyway you have should have no real interest in raising your rev limit, or even shift points. I assume there will be no gains, especially on a 420a. Now if you are doing this to a built engine then thats a whole different story.

First build your race engine, then decide what your rev/shift limits are based on component strength and valve-train, rotational vibration etc...

one step at a time brah, rev limits are waaayyyyy towards the end.

Pretty sure that wont work with the A604 but you could always email them and ask.

I already asked Tim..It does work for 420a's...

But you can email him and see if you need to extend the wires or something...

I was just gonna ask Tim again, but he's going to bed.So just email him. He'll get back to you tomarrow.

Seeings how the a604 is one of the worst designed automatic transmissions ever made... DON'T DO IT.

with that said, the automatic shifts at about 6,400 rpms
the 5 speed rev limiter is 7,300 rpms.
raising the shift point to 7,300 wont hurt the engine.
but it will most likely destroy your transmission.
