Price of NT Tranny repair and update...?

Seeing that I can no longer shift into 2nd (and only 2nd gear) without grinding (unless I am going 5 mph or less), I am pretty sure the #2 syncro is toast. I have a local shop in Tualatin quoting me @ $1100 for the repair plus the gearing & parts update that they claim is necessary w/ this transmission. Is this price about right? Is the gearing update they claim recommended/necessary? If I brought them an Act2100 clutch andf had them install it, how much more should they tack on?

Also, they claim it is way more common for #3 syncro to fall out then #2 on this transmission...

I wouldn't do it, you can get 2 used trannys for that much.
