does anyone know if the tranny from a second gen gs-t is the same as a 96 gs???? i'm planning on doin a turbo engine swap i got the engine, ecu and tranny for free in perfect running order i need to know if i need to put in this tranny or will my stock gs tranny work.??? also does anyone know if the engine mounts are the same i believe that they are i'm just double checkin.

Nothing is the same.

Better have the wiring harness, ecu, shift linkage, crossmember, custom mounts, all piping, etc...

If you have to ask this question then you won't be able to do the swap.

i have everything i have a spare car that the body is slammed in the back. but the engine is perfect i paid 500 for everything. what will need to be done and why wouldn't my shift linkage work?????

Have you even looked at the engine bays of a 2G GS and a 2G Turbo? The tranny is on the wrong side. The engine is oriented the other direction. How do you propose to make everything fit?

you'd be better off taking your back end and putting it on the gs-t, then putting the gs-t motor in your nt. That may be an exaggeration but then again it may not, it depends on how damaged the frame of the gs-t is. Seriously though if you want that motor that bad think about putting your back end onto that car, getting everything painted to match and sell your nt, you might actually come out ahead on $$$

disregard the ranting.....if you got the complete front clip, have at it bro. you can look from one to the other to see what all is different. on the assembly line gs's and gsts are the same frigin' car right up to the engine and tranny. the shift linkage is different but the mounts are there punched into your car for the turbo linkage. as to installing the engine and trans in your car, just drop the whole sub-frame from the gst into your gs, the axles, spindles, front struts included. it saves on the bs, it really does......

well in terms of swapping the struts i have complete suspension done to my eclipse so that will be staying i figure this to be a long process but unlike some of the other people on here i know it's not impossible.

No one said its impossible. The question is the cost. And is that cost acceptable to you. That's something only you can decide for yourself. We can only give you our opions. And my opion is that its going to cost you to much damn money.

well i bought an entire car for 500 for an engine with 50k mi,les on it that comes with everything gaurenteed. so the only other thing i need to worry about is will everything fit, does it all bolt in and what exactly i will need to take out. if anyone can help me out with that i would greatly appreciate it. thank you.

i personally don't know what all it takes, i know the engine and tranny mounts are different, the wiring harness is different, the ecu is different etc. I know it's not impossible but even though you got the car for 500 bucks I still don't think it will be as easy and worth it as you may think. To do this swap it will probably take a good $5-$6k, due to all the custom fabrication (maybe 1000 less cause you've already got the motor). Add that to the cost you paid for your non-turbo. Don't forget down time while you take your nt motor out, custom fab. stuff that requires it. If you are doing all the work yourself including fabrication then by all means go for it. Don't take this the wrong way but if you are asking a question like this in a forum it is a safe assumption that you are not doing all the work yourself. So when all is said and done you've paid 4500-6500 + the cost of your current 2g - $300-$400 you can salvage off the old turbo car. Keep in mind this is for a t-25 turbo that will get you a mid 15 sec. car. Or you can spend 3k on a stage 2 turbo from HRC and be running mid-high 14's. Or you can find old 1st gen gsx for less then you'll spend on this conversion and if you look hard enough you could probably find a 2nd gen turbo for the same or less. We're just trying to save you time, money, and frustration that most of us feel would be inevidble with this project.
