New to 420A's need help finding clutch and tranny!
Hey guys,
I'm used to workin on 4G63's and i got some kid that has a 95 GS.
The tranny is a disaster and the clutch is pretty shot too.
He bought a clutch from advanced and its a flywheel and PP.... I noticed the flywheel PP and clutch are all in one peice.
I told him this and he sent me what looks like a flexplate off of an automatic
so if you guys could email me and tell me where i can find a good cheap tranny and the deal with the clutche.
i figure after you get rid of the stock clutch you just get a flywheel and bolt the pressure plate on.
Alfordz123@Adelphia.net
Thanks Guys
Alex

Our clutches are modular; the pressure plate, flywheel, and clutch disk, etc. are all pre-assembled into one unit.
As for the transmission, you can search local junkyards or the DSMTuners/2GNT.com classifieds. That's probably your best bet, as the dealer is going to be extremely pricey. 2Gs are getting harder to find in junkyards, though, so if you can't find any suitable donor cars, you can also try a Neon transmission.
There are a few caveats that must be met before performing this Neon tranny swap, however. For one, you'll need to keep the current bellhousing if your new tranny is from a 95-99 Neon since they utilize cable type clutches (unlike 2GNTs which use hydraulic clutches). If you get a tranny from 2001+ base model Neon, you won't have to worry about swapping bellhousings. There are a few more things to consider; but they can all be found in this write-up:

As for clutches most 2gnt owners go with SPEC or Southbend Clutch. First off since this car is N/A he really doesn't need aftermarket grip, the stock system is pretty durable for the amount of power that gets put out until of course it's boosted(if it's going to be). I perfer Southbend Clutch over SPEC just because of the quality. http://www.dxdracingclutches.com/home.html Go there and look around, if you need to, call and ask for Andy. He helped me through my decision making and I'm sure he will help you.

Actually if your going to stay N/A, pick up a factory PT cruiser clutch. The PT Cruiser replacements have a slightly higher clamping force due to the added weight of a pt cruiser. Many 2GNT'ers have used this and it works well. Must be from a 2.0L, not the 2.4L.

im thinking about getting a transmission from a neon, since the j yard has alot of those compared to the eclipse. ive heard that the neon's transmission has a different final drive ratio, one of like 3.55:1 or something to that effect. is this true? im also talking about the manual, jus to clear things up. if i could get any info on this it would be greatly appreciated.
and Alfordz123, good luck finding a tranny, ive been around several times, and they are seemin rare. i dunno if its where i live or what. but to let ya know, i have been burned off of ebay buying one from there, so be skeptical if you use that method. id be skeptical anyways, try to find one in pretty decent shape, ive found that these transmissions are very delicate. hope this helps

The final drive ratio in the neons differ from sohc to dohc. The neons with the sohc have a longer 5th gear for better fuel mileage. If your going with a neon swap, the 98 rt is the strongest neon trans.
If your just looking for parts
http://www.drivetrain.com/transillch...odge_A578.html
Neon, eclipse, talon, avenger nvt-350 transmission gear ratios.
http://www.neons.org/forumdodge/trans.htm
If you have no luck finding a trans, contact me. I have a rebuilt rt trans thats just sitting around.
Either way, before reinstalling your trans, have a shop put in the $6 differential brackets that keep the pin in your differential from shooting out the case or worse.
