Need your opinion on this clutch

ACT doesnt make clutched for 420a's. Look into SPEC or CLutchmasters; theyre both proven. Not much is known about that ebay clutch; although I have spoken to the seller, who sounds legit, but it was on a different product altogether. Check some of the neon boards as well for more options since they share a similiar tranny as ours.

I own the Spec and I like it ... I got the stage IV and its holding up pretty good ... also went ahead and got the lightened flywheel while I was in there. Revs are much quicker and the clutch is grabby, so much that if you arent on the gas enough its usually a stall. BUT I have managed to cause it to slip once where it would not grab until I let off the throttle. Scared me real bad because thats what happened to the stock one before it disintegrated.

I would suggest getting one you know will work because you'll be cursing a storm after you crack your transmission open to replace and it wont fit. I also looked at Clutchmasters but it just didnt seem to take as much abuse as the spec does.

Good luck man!

hey ravager, how did that flywheel work out? was that before or after turbo? did you notice a big increase in revving speed or just a small one. what about acceleration, any difference? thanks

Where did you get your stuff at?

I just found one of their dealers that was close to me at:

www.specclutch.com

The guys I ordered from were cool and they were extremely helpful in picking out the stage I needed, even though it was a mustang 5.0 shop.

Flywheel was after turbo ... basically the best way to explain it is, it is nearly impossible to hold revs at a certain point. The throttle is so touchy now that it takes alot of finesse to keep it steady. The first time we fired it up and drove out I couldnt keep the revs down since I was giving it gas like I normally would've. Which all translates to yes the revs are quite a bit faster now. As far as real world difference ... Im unsure because my stock clutch went the first day I ran it so I have a feeling it was slipping and the times might as well be thrown out. But I can bet that it is helping more than I know.

I would highly recommend that if you have the money get the flywheel also so they both match and any performance gains you may get from the lightened weight you've got without getting back into it.

I have the aluminum. Yeah you have to pay extra for the aluminum. Total I think I paid about $900 for the whole package. Which is a bit more pricey than most but as long as I take care of it I should never need another one. At least I hope. :)

Also ... if you do get the spec and the aluminum flywheel let me know if you have problems with the bolts not being long enough. I have extra I bought because at the time Spec didnt know that our tranny are slightly different than the neons, so they dont supply bolts, or should I say didnt ... Now Im hoping they know ... if not like I said let me know because I can sell you the leftover bolts I have rather than you having to go through what I did which was special order the bolts from NY in bulk. That was the only place we could find that had the exact right kind.
