CHeck Engine Light is on.

97 rs eclipse . my check engine light came on. i was on the high way and my car was jerking like when you put it in a high gear at low rpm .. does this mean my tranny is slipping or maybe one of my cylinder is not firing?.. cauyse when i step on the gas it jerks and then it smoooths out.. anyways is there a way to reset the check engine light? .. can i possible get some trouble codes ?.. can anyone help? please get back to me thanks

search for pcm codes. you turn the key and the cel blinks to reveal a code. if you want to get it off disconnect your neg battery cable for about 10 minutes and it will reset. the cel will come back on though.

what is a cel? and when i switch the car to the on position it will blink the trouble codes?.. where can i get the trouble codes so i know what they mean. again what is a cel ? the warning light?

CEL= Check Engine Light. Turn the key 1/2 way so only the lights go on in your car. Do it 3 times on and off, On the last time the Check Engine Light will blink off the code numbers. You can find what the numbers mean at 2gnt.com

the pcm is the powertrain control module? does that mean somthing in the tranny is messed up? the power train is the transmission right? . i got code 12 and 43 . 12 isdirect power input to the PCM has been disconnected within the last 50 key-on cycles. what does this mean , and 43 is Ignition coil #2 primary circuit and #1 .. i found oil in my sparkplug well. could this be misfiring cylinder/????

please check your exhaust. very dirty? trace of oil?

Leaky oil cap? this should be in problem diag. Also your valve cover gasket may have failed, I think they are similar to the 4g63, they have spark plug gaskets right? It could cause oil to leak down, sounds like the problem to me,

look for an oil source and do a compression test.

My Light also comes on, when my oil pressure drops down to L and doesn't come up.

I checked the Codes its 44, Ignition coil, ignition Power Transistor..

What is wrong and what do I need to change?

i would venture to say that you are not getting the proper spark. i would change the coilpack, plugs, wires. im not positive though. anyone else have insight on this for him?>

I´m sorry probable this wasnt the right answer.
Check/replace your valve cover. Simple to do it byself but dont forget
the "packing compound". ready in 20 minutes
Oil level normal?

I would definately start out small and first change your spark plugs. Also, while you're at it you should probably change your spark plug wires. I have also experienced strange engine behavior when at low rpms (low spark) and new wires/plugs always seemed to do the trick.

Might as well make sure the problem could be small and cheaply fixed - before thinking it's something big and expensive.

go to pepboys (if there is one in your area)...they will plug ur car into the computer and pull out the code. they can probably look it up and tell you what it is. they can also reset it but it will come back on if something is wrong. which it seems like something is really wrong.

my se-r did this right before the motor took a crap on me (nitrous related)...but non the less it would hesistate and jerk...then it burned oil smoke came out of the exhaust and it died. you should get it checked out ASAP

Key dance only works on 95 and 96 420A's. He has a 97, won't help.


My car went nuts Sunday night. I started her up and she was shaking and had no power.(My CEL has been on since my last tune up) I changed the plugs and wires yesterday, she runs fine and no CEL!!!!!!!
