OK!!!! My friend tim installed a greddy fm intercooler on his 98 gs... He did this by ..bolting it on,install plumbing,he coverd the turbo inlet end with a cap..(he didnt know if he should cover it or not ...so he did anyway)..and he installed a gredddy ssq bov......now keep inmind he did all this for looks...but i am wondering for his sake..whether it will function or not ! For instnce will it actually work as an intake and be non restictive, or will it screw his car up......and my personal dumba*s question is if it does wrk as an intake(functional) ...wont the bov open while he is driving from the intake pressure.???

---plz answere quick so he doesnt kill himself or screw up his nice car:dsm:

If had the money to buy all of that, why not just spend a little more and get the full kit...

Atleast then it would be worth the money

Paul

I would've just got a billet grill and called it a day......

Well im not tim.....i actually did put on a billet grill.... but he is a dumbas* but seriously do any of yall think it will work for him....at all!! bc i about bov's and how they work ...i know it will open while he is driving but do u think if he removes the bov and caps the flange ...will the intercooler even work as a shi*ty intake at that?

i think your friend has seen the Fast and the Furious waaaaaay to many times. but it sounds like if you cap off the BOV (ala dont use it) and stick a filter on the end of the turbo inlet of the intercooler, it should just work like a really long intake pipe. it would probably hurt performance more than it would help though becuase there are so many bends the air has to travel through to reach the intake, also you wouldnt even be getting full atmosphereic pressure because an intercooler saps a pound or two of psi away from you. im guessing you would have absolutely NO bottom end, (1000-3500rpm) because the car just wouldnt be able to generate enough airflow for the engine to be happy....but then again at higher rpms it might help alot. your car will be moving pretty quick and as long as there isnt something obscurring the filter, the speed alone should be putting enough air into it...it would also be intercooled so it would help the intake charge. but as far as anything irreversibly detremental to the engine, you dont really have to worry. tell your friend to keep on ricin'! :|

And to think I was about to say something about how dumb _he_ is.

Well the BOV won't open so don't worry about that. As for plugging the other pipe where the turbo would be connected to the system, if you do that you will have no air comming into the system, hense no air in the engine. So you will have to put a filter on it. Your friend is stupis and this will decrease performance not increase it. At best this is a stupid idea and I would tell him not to do it at all. If he is going to do something like this he should get the front mount intake system, or leave the I/C bolted up in the grille and run a regular cold air or short ram intake. I really don't understand why he did the BOV and all that though, because once he lifts the hood they might see those things, but they won't see a TURBO, so they will still know it's fake, but whatever.

Where the hell did this dink think this up? Thats has to rank up there with slapping a "Si-R" emblem on a KA-powered 93' 240SX. (yes I knew a cat in high school that actually drove this around, along with some JACKED up billet grill inserts...sad stuff yo.) Or shoving a stick in a muffler to punch the silencer out of place... Or even driving a car around with no Catalytic converter...( yes knew two peeps how did these things to thier rides... Got quite a few ricers down here in Miami.)

Yeah drugs will make you do stupid things. I might go as far as saying that drugs will also keep people from making simple answers to simple questions.

Great, another flame war that could have just had one, intelligent response, followed by a locking of the thread to keep the rest out.

The intercooler will be a restriction because it's used on a system that is designed to have air forced through it at greater than atmospheric pressure. N/A car's can't bring in enough air to overcome the restriction that the intercooler presents.

Overall this will be detrimental to performance as well as radiator operation in some conditions.
Doug

p.s. it was a waste of money unless it is going to next get a turbo.
