More Air

This might be an off the wall ? but I was just wondering if the MAS could be removed from a 1G engine. If so how could the thing be bypassed to keep the engine running correctly..The thing just looks to restrictive...If it cant is there any way to open the air flow up in them....Any sugesstions will help....

Just make your own custom cold air intake.

your mas measures the airflow coming into your car and there is no way you could run PROPERLY without it.
you can remove the star like looking filter dealy at the start of the intake pipe, and take out the lower honeycomb...but i would recomend getting a k&n filter and hakcing out the aircan first because those two peices straighten out the airflow, and a k&n will help straighten as well....
a custom intake pipe would help too

talonR that was no ofence but the stupidest question i have seen here!!??
How can even think of someting like that!! What kinda of engine u have?
fuel injected or Carborator ??See the carborator engines dont need MAF ### they dont need to measure the air that enters the chamber and that is why they need way more fuel then injected engines ### they suck lots of air wich needs lots of fuel and it is also hard to tune a carborator engine to perfor on 100% ### there is no ECU to do so automaticaly.
If u take ## maf away ## car might not even start or if it starts when u rev the engine and then let off the gas the rpms will drop down to below 400 and the car will turn off,in order to drive u ll have to have ## feet on the gass all the time and if u trive the car hard like this for awhile u ll kill ## engine ### the car will run very rich or very lean and u ll just kill ## engine.

Just because he doesn't have a carburated engine doesn't mean he needs a MAF to run. That just makes you sound ignorant, have you ever heard of Chrysler or General Motors?? They use a system called Speed Density and some manufacturers use Density Speed. They don't need a MAF because they have a MAP and the ECU calculates the airflow. Same theory used in standalones...The only way you can tell if removing any restrictions in your intake would be to measure manifold vacuum at WOT...If it isn't 0 then you could benefit from increasing airflow otherwise once you get to 0 vacuum, going bigger on the intake won't help a bit. So to answer your question, the only way to do it is go standalone.

Thanks for the help, I guess the question came out wrong, what was meant was the possibility of gutting out the insides of the mas...Anyways I am considering trying out that GM MAFS with the translator thing for s**ts and giggles....Thanks again
