I'm just starting to get into the DSM's. I own a 1993 Plymouth Laser RS Non Turbo. I want to get as much information about DSM's and what kind of power and reliability to exspect from my own DSM. I may only be 15, but I like cars. I also have a few questions.

1. Can 2g non turbo exhaust headers fit the 1g non turbos?
2. Are 2g valve covers innerchangable with 1g valve covers?
3. What kind of catback exhaust systems are there for the 1g non turbos

Currently I have no job, so I have no money to spend. My parents have agreed to buy me 1 performance part for my Laser when I turn 16. I was thinking a universal muffler from our local car performance parts shop. If you have any other suggestions feel free to share them. I'm looking to get the most horsepower gain out of a single part that I can. ($150-$300 range)

Thanks. :laser:

They say to get a custom 2.5" job from a shop put on for exhaust with a muffler of universal matter. Then get your manifold ported.

not a bad idea, but then you still leave the stock b pipe under your now ported manifold. better to just get a header in my opinion.

i dont believe the 2g n/t exhaust manifold will fit a 1g n/t. I could be wrong but the 2g's engine code is 420A and the 1g is a 4g63

P.S.
i just turned 16 and i dont have a job yet, so i am in the same boat as you are. If you need anymore help or have any noobie questions PM me and i will help you out as much as i can.

must have missed that but a 2g header will not fit on a 1gnt.

Mav,

What header do you suggest? I would like to get a header but most people said otehr then pacesetter which they said is not very good there was not much availible. I would prefer to get the header ported some too if its possible.

i advise the chikara header, but of course its the most expensive. but your best bet is to pick up the pacesetter, remove the shitty middle flanges and have the two pieces welded together. **caution** this will require you to remove both the alternator and the power steering pump to install this, and possibly the oil filter and center engine support but it will keep that stupid paper gasket from blowing out (which it will do). then take a piece of paper and get a good tracing of the size of each exhaust port and then using a dremel and a bit they sell for it (you can find it here http://www.toolsforless.com/cgi-bin/ToolBig.pl?SKU=9903DR ) and then match those ports. of course going with the ceramic coated one is the best idea, but is obviously not the most cost effective.

Who sells the chikara header?

I plan to stay clear of pacesetter to many people have too many bad things to say, plus if I spend 150 bucks on that just to have to "fix" their problems its a bad product not worth my time or money.

What is a good muffler? I was thinking about a magnaflow dual outlet muffler. I want something that looks a little stock. But I want a deep throughty sound. I really like that kind of buzzing sound that some of the POS Honda Civic's got.

Would a 2.5" pipe match up with the stock cat?

I really want to loose the cat and replace it with a streight pipe.

My recommendation for an affordable exhaust setup would be to pick up the universal straight through muffler of your choice on eBay (about $80), take it to an exhaust shop and have them weld it on, as well as replace your stock piping with 2.25-2.5" from the manifold back (around $100), and finally pick up a testpipe from a place such as www.testpipe.com or eBay to replace your cat (about $30). You could probably do the entire project for under $250...which sure beats a $500+ name brand exhaust when you're scrapped for dough. Goodluck

Getting a custom exhaust is the best way to go. Instead of paying $500+ for a whole cat back you can do the same for half as much. If you want a high flow cat you should get the exhaust done too. I've heard that replacing your header (there's only 1) isn't the best bang for your buck unless you have a lot of other mods. Go to a local muffler shop and ask them how much they would spend to weld, put in the resonators, and install the 2.5" piping and muffler. Find your universal muffer on e-bay. Hope it helps :talon:

Well. My Laser has a horrioble exhaust leak. From the manifold back. So I made a deal with my parents to get a muffler put on it now. So I decided to get a Magna flow dual outlet muffler and 2.5" pipe.

my friend just a bought a magnaflow muffler for his Laser, it is very high flow, no baffles or what not but should still keep a nice deep tone-$80
