I was wondering if it is possible to put a built head on a stock block. Specifically, I am curious about the rpmextreme head. Is it possible to put that head on my stock block?? Any help is appreciated.:thumb:

Doing just the head on a stock block whether or not you're running a turbo is like making a sandwich with just bread and nothing inside. You're not going to get much out of it. It would be better to build the block with higher compression pistons and leave the head alone until you have money to do that. It’s best to have them both done at the same time though. But your question was is it possible, yes it is, is it worth it, no. It’s your choice, your money.

Well I had thought about doing the upped compression, but i will be running the howellautomotive ecu which from what I understand advances timing among other things. I also heard that advanced timing and high compression is a bad thing. Maybe I am wrong??

I say rebuild your bottom end before your head. It's easier to change out the head than it is the block and internals. If you do the block now, even if you keep the stock CR, but drop in forged components, you will be better off. You could do that and know you wouldn't have to rebuild the bottom end for another 100K at least! Then you can swap out the head in an afternoon sometime in the future.

If your engine is solid right now and has no problems, I suggest buying the AFX ECU and saving the rest of the cash for for a total rebuild or completely rebuilt engine that's already assembled.

Your engine will only be as strong as it's weakest link..

actually the 420a gets most of its power from the head and if its a fully built head(port & polish, cams, cam gears and a complete valvetrain kit) you will notice a drastic change

Well as far as buying the af/x ecu now and doing a rebuild later, wont that as I mentioned be bad with advanced timing and higher compression?? And as far as the head, would crane stage 3 turbo cams be a bit much?? I still want to maintain stock, or close to stock idle, and not kill my low end! What do you think?

Well don't get turbo cams if you are not going to run a turbo. Get cams that are ment for N/A. As for the head your stocker was designed by lotus, so there is not that much to improve upon. If you want to upgrade parts for no reason then go ahead. All you need to do is put in a set of cams, cam gears, maybe some LIGHT port work and your done with the head. The upgraded valve train kit is usless you don't need it. All those parts do is make the valve train stronger and you don't need that, the stock is fine. Why build a valve train strong enough to rev to 10,000 RPM when the most the car will ever see is 7,200?

No you can't. Higher compression and advanced timing will require better tuning. Just like with turbo. However the room for error on a high compression with advanced timing is much greater than on a turbo with advanced timing. So it will be less worry but you will still need to tune it right.

I have the head off my car (95 RS) right now with the cams out of it (the timing belt broke, wanted to make sure eveything was good and straight). Since its just as easy to put better cams in as the old ones, what would be the most effective thing to do to gain some hp (which cams to get or porting etc). I have a little money to spend on going faster (~$400) as this is my "reliable daily driver" not the "fun car". I really don't knwo much about these things as far as what go-fast parts are good/ worthwile.

I Have been Eyeing the crower stage one cams at crower.com. Should be good for about 10hp and are $402. Give Those a try and tell me what you think:thumb:

you guys crack me up. I'll save my $$ It'd cost me less than that for 50hp+ cam in the Pontiac.

is it posible to put 200 whp on 4g63 DOCH N/A with fully build engine?

Anything is possible, but why would you try to make a non-turbo 4g63? If there is a specific reason why you would want to do that, yea it can be done, but it'd probably take a lot of money to do.

cuz I dont wana play with turbos or nos I want n/a engine that can keep up with turbos and also i dont need more then 200 whp.Why do i need more ?im not profecional racer,I just race for fun and with 200whp on my car it will fly cuz now I push 115whp and it is fast so with 200whp it ll be just perfect for me and i dont have to worry bot all the problesm that the turbo cars have.
