will removing the catylatic converter cause my "check engine" light to come on? I was discussing it with someone and they seem to think that it will cause my computer to think that my system isn't getting enough back pressure and seem to be running lean, therefore increase gas and making me run rich.

Anyone?

iam am mechanic and have seeen this many times most of the time it wont trigger te light as long as you keep the pipe the same diameter and sealed well

I am going to take a wild guess and say maybe 3-5 hp...5 being really high.

Its damn tought to get big HP out of the 420a without doing bigger mods to it.

i gutted my cat and have a CEL because of it. There is a mod you can do to the rear O2 sensor that will turn it off. All you do is solder a resistor in to one of those wires. There is a web page for it, ill look it up and post it later

its half and half on when you get a cel and what mods trigger it, it depends on what you do and how you do it, like the mechanic said if done right it wont trigger the cel.

import tuner i think it was said they got a 20-30 hp gain from removing that cat converter and putting in a 60$ straight pipe in. but that was a gs-t... and it was import tuner..

Removing the cat will not trigger the check engine light. If it does then you can undo the battery (negative) and start the car after. Removing the car will generally give you 8-10 HP depending on the size of the pipe and the turbo you run.

Something to keep in mind is that removing the pipe is illegal in most states and will not pass smog.
