tach install

i have been trying to hook up a tachometer to my 98 eclipse Non turbo. but cannot seem to find actualy RPM's. when i hook it up i only get half the reeding i am supposed to get. i dont think my car has an ECU so we tried to hook it up to the PCM. does anyone know how i can get actualy RPM's on my tach?

Is your tach set up for a V-8? Check its instructions, there may be a wire to disconnect or cut on the tach itself.

i think i've heard of this before, i believe it's because you've only got your tach hooked up to one of your coils (of two, hence the 1/2 reading). Like i said i don't know the exact problem but i've heard of this before.

There is a Green wire in the gauge cluster. Take the gauges out and unhook the harnesses in the back. I don't remember if its on the first harness or the second. Just tap the green wire. I know my tach has a switch on the back to choose what kind of engine you have. Hope you figure it out.

Hi, I've the same problem on mine, the car has two coil and I've connect at only one , so the signal is half.. but what can I do for read the right signal? the tach is setted on 4 cil..

You need to tap the wire form the ECU, think it is the only solid white wire in the bottom connector if memory serves me right, but some cars don;t have a tach signal active(like mine that came without a factory tach) In that case you have to get a tach adapter from Autometer to make it work....

I have the same thing when i bought my tach, i just tapped into the A73 terminal on the ECU its a white wire, mine works just fine now. Its a lot better driving with a tach so you know what your revs are at once less thing to wonder about going down the road

i had this problem also but, there is a very easy fix. msd tach adapter from summit. it cost about 50 dollars (dont remember the exact amount. it took 10 minutes to install very easy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
