Ok, i was bored and made this from some pvc straight fitting from home depot, and extra rubber intake hoses.

.... another, i also just used some tighten clamps to make it tight, but it still wiggles, so some air leakes or whatever, but for now i just need to find a bigger rubber fitting to fit inside the pvc so it will fit real snug.

About the same as mine except i used 3" aluminum tubing i got from a plumbing supplies store down the street and bent the stock clampz alittle to get that K&N on ^^. good work now get a grinder and cut a hole just below that intake and get it pointed in2 wheel well, thats my coming summer project. gL

Well today I tore apart my whole front end to get to that little black air box thing behind the bumper that feeds air into that little hole, I took that out and used some more rubber hoses to dirrect cold air from the front of the car and routed into that whole and stuck it right by the filter, ill have pics up later, as of right now i am making a heat shield, until i can get ahold of a zaw saw to make that whole bigger so i can stiick my filter behind my bumper.

... pic...see the hole.....thats the ground... took out all the platic shit and that box thing.

I only see one problem. PVC. It looks good and all and I'm sure you got a little bit of gain out of it but, PVC puts off a vapor when it gets hot. And it isnt very good for the engine. Just something I heard from a fellow DSM'er. I did my own intake too but i used 3 inch exauhst piping from a diesel pickup. If you have a shop around that does exauhst systems go and see if they have any old systems they have thrown out from a diesel. most of them have a couple different bends in them and you should be able to use one of the bends to make a perfect fit for you intake.

hmm, thx, thats a good idea, yeah i heard about the pvc vapor to, after i did it, what if i put some type of material over the pvc so it wont get soo hot? Also ill be making a heat sheild and dirrect tubing from the front of my bumper to my filter.

Thermal wrap might work, but if your trying to stay light aluminum tubing like exhaust piping is the way to go then you wont have to worry about the heat. Also you might want to try some black silicone around your rubber hose ends to help with sealing the pipe.

I'd like to hear more about this one, or I'm calling MYTH. The engine bay isn't getting _that_ hot.

Also, until you submerge, there's no puddle threat through that little vent.

Ya come to think of it, when ever i check it, its never hot, not even warm to the touch:rolleyes: so its most likely a MYTH, its not near the fans or anything hot or warm. And i know that no puddle will get into that hole. Soon my filter will be in that hole:thumb: ill have a remove-able splash guard to protect it so dont worry guys;)

ha ha... that's so cool, a home grown intake system. Nice job on the form, it looks like a short ram, except not connected to the air box.

PVC stays cool though through most of the time. I've felt a PVC intake after the car had been driving for over and hour, and raced twice. It was perfectly cool. I do feel safer with a metal one, but metal heats up in the bay more than PVC, so the air inside the piping gets a bit warmer as well...

yup.......this is how i really want my intake setup....but i just have to have some more time on my hands...

howdo u take the air silencer thing thats in the wheel well area off i took of the bolt thats easy to get to from the wheel well but i cant find any other bolts and its still stuck on there

Alright. Turn your wheel so you can have more accsess to it. I had my front bumper off so that made it a little more easier. At the bottom of the jug thing to the right there is a bolt in the very back. You can see it. You will need about 2 extensions with a rachet. Its far back in there. The bolt is near the bottom to the right of the jug on a bracket. Just loosen that until the whole unit is out. I hope that helps.

Oh yeah forgot about those. Those are off too. And It finally rained here so I could test to see if water would actually splash into the hole and get my filter wet. It was pouring! I went thru puddles too. I checked it. Filter bone dry. A little drips were close but nothing to worry about. But if some do this. And have bad luck with it. Plz dont blame me. This is my luck and exsperience with it.
