winnipeg,
I have 92 talon automatic transmission, my engine revs in power mode at 6400 RPM in 1st gear, 6300 RPM in 2nd, but i havent maxed out my 3rd gear cuz im afraid to see my tranny behind LOL...do u guys think that my engine revs are a bit low in 1st and 2nd? what kinda mods do i need to bring up my revs to at least around 7000 rpm ? the only mods i got was I/H and hacked silencer, im using syntetic oil, just had new spark plugs.

Oh yeah, one thing i noticed weired about my revs one time when i WOT it at 1st gear and i pushed the power mode switch to economy after it shifted to 2nd gear, the revs only reached up to 5500 RPM which is about normal, then i pushed the power mode button switch to POWER back after the 2nd gear shifted to 3rd and i noticed that my engine revs picked up quickly to hit around 6300 and stayed there till i pushed the over drive button...im not exactly sure what happend there but some how it seems that i picked up a bit of power in my 3rd gear blast....ne ways its just weird...:p

Make sure your throttle is adjusted, i.e. your fully opening the throttle plate.
Second, make sure your TPS is 5V @ WOT.

first of all, i dunno if you guys noticed but atblacktalon92 has an auto. the shift points are dictated by the transmission module. i think at the shift points you have mentioned, you're just about doing right. with the economy switch on, you are just about to shift at WOT around 5500 rpm's. on power mode, 6300 rpms are just about right. depending on your mods, you can bump it up to 6500 rpms. i always hit 6500 rpms on 1st & 2nd but at 3rd it only shifts at 6300 rpms (probably coz i have the OD on). always have your tranny in good condition since dsm tranny's are not known for their reliability, esp. the auto's.

goodluck! :thumb:

throttle position sensor is fine...i tested my shifting point again yesterday and i was wrong...i noticed that when im at WOT at the end of 2nd gear in economy mode, it shifted at 5500 rpm which is about right, then after it shifted to 3rd gear in economy mode and the rpm is climbing, i pushed the POWER mode shitch back to ON,,,then i noticed that my tranny shifted back to 2nd gear with a quick climb to 6400 rpm....now the question is why did it down shifted back to 2nd gear after i pushed the power mode switch back on and the RPM is currently climbing in 3rd gear during economy mode?...did i picked up a bit of power or pull in that brief down shifting to 2nd gear?....thats it for now ..later all.

Yes, the shift points are controlled by the transmission module. But I would think the trans mod gets info from the TPS to determine when to shift.....

My G/Fs car will go right up to 7K in power mode, for 1-2, 2-3 & 3-4...
It is a 91 GS, BTW.

now the question is why did it down shifted back to 2nd gear after i pushed the power mode switch back on and the RPM is currently climbing in 3rd gear during economy mode?

it would have to downshift since switching from economy to power (given the current speed you were at that point) power mode dictates that at that speed, it should be still on a lower gear. note that switching from economy to power doesnt always result to dowshifting or gaining pull (sorry but it's not a NAWWSS button, but sometimes i wish :D ). both economy and power has to go with their own distinct cycles, with power sustaining shifts resulting to higher rpms/faster speed.

hey that's cool.:thumb: i can't rev that high for some reason. but having to shift that doesnt do much since NT AT's hp peak doesnt go that high (is it at 6500 rpms? not sure, somebody fill me in on this one.). nevertheless, that's still cool. :D

Well her car has some mods...I'm more then positive it makes power up there. In fact, it pulls harder from 5.5-7k then lower.

well if u watn ur car to rev higher i have a solution. instead of takin off in drive put it in first or L. on some cars u gotta shift it to 2nd but on a dsm as soon as it bumps the redline itll shift. just leave it in L and when it bumps the redline again itll go to 3rd. trust me itll help.even if ur car doesnt pull as good in the 6500to 7000 range when it goes to 3rd there will b about a 600 rpm jump and there wont be as much of a low rpm drag right after it shifts. thats a big jump in the automatic 2nd to 3rd. hope this helps.

thnx for those infos...i tried using the L and shifted at 7000 rpm in first gear...i shifted around 6000 rpm in 2nd and then i barely used the start of 3rd gear when i reached 60mph...i used a stop watch to get my 0-60 time and came up with approx. around 10 sec...i dunno if the 1st gear rev at 7000rpm really helps a bit , but it feels that it makes the 2nd gear quicker. I noticed that sometimes my rev pick up is slow and sometimes it pick up fast...would a fuel pressure regulator solve this problem or it might be sumthing else ?...

ne ways im planning to get cams soon but im still looking for a good deal....do i need a new cam gears if im going to install new cams?

hey dont shift yourself. leave it in L. trust me itll shift on its own. itll bump the redline just a lil and then shift itself. leave in L the hole time. when it goes to shift to third(which is a big jump) itll shift at about 75 and ull notice a huge difference in third. but the whole time just leave it in L and itll hit the redline and it pulls the whole way on my car and all i have is plugs wires and camgears. tell me how much better that made ur 0-60 after u try it cuz i need to know about what minll run cuz ive nevr timed it..........peace

i have a 94 talon nt 5 spd and when i first start my car up after lettin it sit for a few hours it idles at about 1200 RPMs, then after about 5 mins it drops down to 600 rpms and if i turn my A/C on my car stalls... if i am driving with my A/C on and i slow down to make a turn and my rpms drop below 1000, my car stalls... whats goin on here... do i just need an engine tune-up and my A/C serviced.. or can i fix everything myself
