2002 Neon tranny to 97 Rs?

Hi. Okay so my transmission has been making noise for years, leaks fluid and now i lost 5th gear. I called a local engine/transmission place and asked how much a semi used transmission would cost me and he gave me a $900 estimate! My buddy just sucked water into his Civics engine and bought am Integra B16 with tranny for $800.. Guy said my transmission was super rare.. Here in Canada the Eclipse wasnt available until 2000 i think.. anyways any 90-99 dsm was imported from the U.S. Ive read up on some threads and so far from what i can put together i can drop in a 2002 Neon transmission with no real problems.. Anyone confirm or deny? im pretty sure i might be able to get one from a Neon way cheaper.. Thanks

Im not sure of that year but I have a friend that put a 99 Neon 5spd in his eclipse because it has better gearing. But it might be any Neon with a 420A engine need to do some research but I would find a 420a neon the same year as yours and do it that way so you are 100% drop in and go.

2001 and up neon trans. have hydraulic clutches so you should be good. So it should be a direct swap.

Nice, im just hoping that by getting a newer transmission i might not run into the same problems again a few years down the road.. I would hate to buy one, put it in and have it rattle again

I would search for a transmission out of a "cloud car". There are a few that you can have a direct swap, from a 97-99 Chrylser Sebring base, 98-99 Dodge Avenger, Dodge Stratus too. If you want to do some things to improve and move away from the NV-350, you can. Although by most accounts they can stand a lot of abuse... I say just keep it, rebuild it and go on with life.
