I have a 97 Eclipse RS non-turbo, stock. I want to put in new exhaust in for my first performance part. I don't really know how to put it in or what to get. Any reccomendations on what to get or how to install it?

Well i went with a HKS cat back set up and i really like it, not too loud and looks real good. Not too hard to install just get ready for some rusted bolts so have a lot of PB Blaster with you and some kind of cutting tool just in case.

In all honesty the best bang-for-the-buck exhaust out there is the pacesetter cat back. It comes with 2.5" mandrel bent aluminized piping. That is what I currently have on my car. I didnt like he tip on the muffler or the fact that it wasnt a straight thru design so I bought an OBX B5 muffler and had it welded on. The grand total came up to about 300 bucks installed (I installed it myself, but had to get a muff shop to weld the muff on). I get compliments on my exhaust all the time. It has the deepest tone out of all the NT's in my car club and I love it. It is a bit on the loud side, but thats only because I took the silencer out of it.

I really like the OBX mufflers they are pretty tight... Muffler systems are pretty simple.. The engineers created them to have a little bounce so they aren't bolted in like a head on an engine... I would suggest to take it off just cut the piping here and there (as ling as you have a sawzaw or something like that) and then pull the piping out. Then you can get at the bolts and all that easier. I haven't done mitsu exhausts yet, but they can't be too different from the rest. Get under your car and size up the job before you even buy anything and make sure it's something you want to/can do... Then make a plan up... This is always a good thing to do so you have thought about it before you get everything off and are stuck in the middle of the job...

Definately one of these three... A'PEXi, HKS or Thermal. Thermal exhaust systems are recommended by Extreme Motorsports, who specialize in 1G and 2G DSM's. Here's their site... www.extrememotorsports.com.
From a personal standpoint, I've always liked A'PEXi exhaust systems. I got mine off of eBay for 410 shipped, and it cost me 70 to get it installed, cause I had to get the stock system cut off with a torch. It's mostly what you like personally. But you need to definately get under your car and make sure the bolts aren't rusted so bad that you can't attempt top do it yourself. It's not too expensive to get done professionally. Just my .02 cents worth.

buy a good exhaust and then have alocal shop run the piping all of this should be under $200.

if you have to go with one of the big names, buy their universal and go to a muffler shop and have them run pipe and install.
