I am looking at paying $200 for a Full Injen Race Division CAI.
I can get a non name brand one off ebay around $80

I do plan to turbo eventually (its going to be like a yr and a half, realisticly) so the intake will be replaced. At this point in time, does it make much difference between the 2? My cash is limited but then again, I want the best possible parts for my car.

The only issues I have is the performance difference, and if the ebay brand takes modification to make it fit right (since their so generic)

Whats your oppinions?

injen is known to be one of the best, and as the old saying goes, you get what you pay for, if you want to see better air flow but do not feel like spending that much, just buy a k&n filter at least you know it will make your car run better, plus that means you could start saving some of that money on a turbo kit, i wish that 1g cars had a turbo kit to buy, i would not buy anything that i new nothing about, no name at all sends up a red flag to me,

Good input, anyone got anything else to add?

I have a non-name brand CAI and it works just fine, yet, that could just be me, but I haven't heard any others complaining. My .02.

yeah I mean whats the diff between a CAI and an air filter with no box? they are both basically in the same place

On a 1g or 2g? On a 1g there is no CAI but on a 2g there's a lot different. The CAI extends down into the air damn where the most cold air goes through, so it just sits behind the bumper where there's an opening. That's about it, CAI > Stock/ Filter(Not by much tho)

Here is my thoughts. I use Icemans Competition CAI because its made out of plastic which doesnt hold in the heat as much as metal. Also it goes from about a 4" opening decreasing slowly to the intake. Also from the research I have done Iceman helps to put out more horsepower than any other CAI. These test were done on a dyno. If I can find them I will post. The only downfall is Iceman isnt as showy as Injen.

As for the statement "Whats the difference between a CAI and just putting a filter on they are in the same spot". Is totally not true at all. My filter is now located down low at the opening of my front fascia. So I can get as much cold air as possible plus its similiar to ram air without having true ram air. If you have the air fiter close to the motor its not a true cold air. It may get more air but not cold. Which is what makes the difference.

I got an ebay intake and besides the ####ing filter falling off of it, it gave a nice performance gain. Im a pretty consistent driver and it knocked 2/10ths off my 1/4 mile time, which is supposedly a 20hp gain, but I doubt it.

oh, and it did take some modification for it to fit, I had to take a hacksaw to it, and used zipties to put the filter in a direct flow of air, but it still came out way cheaper than 200 bux

Every intake company claims to have the best intakes, each saying their's is better than everyone else's. A cold air intake is a long pipe with a open air filter at the end of it. Now you have many options at which to buy. Injen being the most expensive. It is still a long pipe with a filter at the end. Ebay non-name brands are the same concept but with cheaper filter. if you plan on turboing your car in the long run it might be a good idea to get a cheap one off ebay and buy an AEM replacement cone filter for $60. you can get a cold air off ebay for $50 shipped to your house. Plus $60 for the better filter, and for a little over a hundred bucks you have the equivalent to an AEM cold air, which has been dynoed the best cai you can buy....just my biased opinion though.....
