id like to make my own heat shield, i was wondering if 18ga SS would do the trick? i have a hahn turbo, so i cant use the cooking pot mod.

If you are planning to cut it in peices and weld it to the shape, than 18 guage (0.049" thick) requires good welding skills assuming you have the tools. If you use rivets, than even a 20 gauge SS (0.039") will be fine.

im planning on it being a 1 piece, attaching to manifold. id like to have it CNCd out then u need to bend it to fit the curvature of the turbo

Do you mean to cut cut the "flat shape" when you refer to CNCd it or do you have (or have access) to a machine that can fold the shape you need out of the cut flat shape? If you can fold it as one peice, 20 gauge will be easier and you will also make a lighter part.

yea it will be flat, the only part that will need any shape is over the turbo, and w have a radial press for that

Good idea. I'd use a powered hand shear, that'll cut it as clean as a laser or turret press could if you use a straight edge guide. If you do use 20 guage, then you can bend it on a cheap bench top sheetmetal pressbrake that'll cost you maybe $30. Then i agree riveting can make a very very clean assembly rivaling anything the big shops sell. Thin gauge is much easier to work, I'd go that route.
