I cant post in the handling thread because of my post count.

But I was wondering if anyone knows how to install a rack and pinion, I already have ordered the part and am waiting for it to come in, any tips for making it easier?

Thanks ahead of time =]

How to install just the rack and pinion gear, or the whole rack? The hole rack is fairly straight forward, just get the car in the air as much as possible. I installed one on my 1g a few years ago. Its something like 4 bolts and removing it from the steering column, and then the two tie rods. As far as taking it apart, i have no idea.

4 days, goddamn. We did ours in 6 hours. I broke the two lines than run underneath the rack and new lines cost more than a used good rack. So we went with that. Def. a job you can do as long as you have tools and time.

Six hours must be four days in "mechanic time."

Also count the number of turns to get your tie rod ends off so you can reinstall the same for proper wheel toe.

That's a good tip, but it's also a good idea to think about getting an alignment very soon after replacing any part of the steering system.

We installed it over two days. But didnt work on it for very long each day. Plus, we had never done it, so it look a little while to figure it out.
