Couple Of Turboing Questions

Been Trying To Peice Together A Turbo Kit For My 420a.Need Some Advice On A Couple Of Things. Planing On Running Bout 8 Psi. I Know That I Need 255 Fuel Pump And Asumming That I Need A Fmu.stock Injectors Should Be Fine From What I've Read. Do I Need To Get A Megasquirt Or Somthing Simmiler Or Not? Also What Size Turbo Would You Guys Recomend For A Daily Driver? Thanks
 
Every Thing That I Read People Say To Put In The 255 Fuel Pump But You Don't Think I Need It?? Would Somthig Like A T30 Be Good For Turbo Not Sure What I Need To Be Looking For
 
Not really sure you need a 255, and something small for a turbo.

OP, don't listen to this b/c he obviously knows jack about boosting a 420a


As for do you need MS, no not for a basic setup, a basic fuel setup is stock injectors, 12:1 fmu and a vortech 255lph hi pressure pump
 
So I should be good with just the 12:1 fmu and pump correct. Any thoughts on turbo size?
 
You NEED a Vortech 12:1 FMU (Fuel management unit, Calan) and a Walbro 255 fuel pump. These will get you a max 8psi without injectors. Don't bother with SAFC's or anything, they're uselss on 420's for the most part.

As for turbo, you don't need something small...use whatever you want. Obviously a big turbo is overkill, so look for a quick spooling t3/t4. I'm running a 14b but I don't recommend it because it was a big pita to mount on a basic log manifold. It runs well, but you either need a custom manifold made, or a stainless tubular one with an adapter. Adapter plates do NOT work on t3 log manifolds. (as I discovered)

Also since you have a 98, you'll need a fuel cut defender or missing link. Check ebay for those, they're pretty affordable. But they'll save your MAP from killing itself when you hit boost.
 
Why do you post in here if you dont know what a fmu is and your trying to give advice?? Yes stock injectors and a fmu will do you fine plus a fuel pump upgrade. Get a 255 pump if you plan on going higher boost but if you think you'll stay at 8 psi and I doubt you will want to get a 190. Msns is only for more of a proper tune.
 
So I should only need mhe megasquirt if I plan to go to a higher boost correct.
 
A 255hp is required for anything more than a few pounds of boost when using a 12:1. A 190, or even a non-HP 255, can not flow enough fuel at the insane fuel pressures demanded by the 12:1 to be safe.
 
You will not need Megasquirt if you are only running a 12:1 fmu. This being because there is nothing to tune with it. You still wont "need" it if you rebuild and move up in boost but it would be the best option. If you are looking to keep it simple, just run the 12:1 and 255 w/stock injectors and you will be fine.
 
Ok I understand what i need for the fuel system. Any thoughts on turbo size?
 
Looking for somthing to spool quickly. Just want to give my dd a little extra snot.:)
 
I run a 50 trim and i love it. spools fully at about 4K. its nice not having to be in boost all the time too. there are tons of threads on here about turboing your 420a. I used the "how to turbo your car for 1000 bucks" but I cant seem to find it right now.
 
Ya Iv'e read that post and several other on turboing a 420a. But none of them say what people are runnig for turbo's.:thumb:
 
its really preference and goals. i think the older volvo turbos are a T3 flange. theyre smaller so they spool pretty fast, .48 A/R i think?
 
Some are runnig 50 trim some 14b's, some 16's i'm lost not sure what to look for just looking for something to give the dd a little extra. Pissed me of the other day when i couldn't get past a pontiac g6.
