quick question i cant find anything on this site except for turbo mani's so sense i have a N/T with bbp stainless steel headers that are starting to rust can i paint them with that high heat header paint from auto zone and have no problem or will it be a waist i was curious because obviously a turbo mani. gets way hotter and i only have headers i wish i could get them ceramic coated but i cant find anywhere close to me that does it.

any help would be great thanks:thumb:

The VHT flameproof paint works well. I haven't managed to burn that off

Another trick that a few of us have used is Permatex copper gasket spray. It bakes to a nice dark gray and lasts a LONG time

it should work fine, not sure how long it will last though, headers get hot, i think that paint is only for around 500degrees.. i could be wrong, but it is easy to fix regardless, another route would be to self powdercoat them, would be more expensive obviously, but you would also have a great powdercoating set-up for all your other engine bay items. There was a nice article in the latest "project-car" about powder coating.

i think the autozone paint might be 2000 degrees i could be wrong

did some searching, flameproof spray (also known as ceramic) by vht is rated up to 1200-1500 degrees and is reccomended for the headers, turbos and etc. where as other vht is rated at 500-650 degrees, not sure how well this would work on the headers but there is a much larger assortment of colors.

Not to high jack this thread, but there is a big difference in looks between the andonized blue (500-650) vs the blue (1200-1500) paint in colors. My headers are currently a silver/grey and would love for them to match the rest of my andonized blue engine bay, so would it work if i base coated flameproof then painted over them in andonized?

I used just that high heat paint on headers on my integra and after like 2 days it was all white and flakey (i painted them black). A guy at work though has a 70's corvette and he used that high heat stuff you have to bake and its holding up really well and looks good to.

I used the VHT flameproof silver on the N/T header I had that was rather rusty. I bead blasted it first before painting. Did what the can said on how to cure it on the car. Never had any problem with the paint flaking off or anything and it insulated the header rather well. I could put my finger almost right on it without burning myself. Only downside was that it started to rust through a little bit after about a month. I didn't realize until afterwards that the VHT in white is primer. I didn't use any primer just sprayed the silver on.
