I just bought a 1991 eagle talon, The timing belt cover is rubbing and it makes my car sound horrible. Is there anyway to fix it or should i just get a new one?

thanks, you our cars are almost the same, have you ever had anytroble with yours?

yeppers i have but i still love it, first prob...coil went..500$ next....brakes...200$ next..clutch.....(gota deal) 250$ next motor..after shipping tax and instalation..3200$ (all canadian dollars)...most people would have sold it...but im attatched to it permanently FOREVER NOW! haha but yeah only i would waist that much money.

I havent had any big trobles yet but i know that it would be hard to sell my car, so i know where your coming from.

ok well i just took of the timing belt cover and the noise is still there. I also noticed while doing that that my car burns alot of oil and smokes a bit when i rev the motor. Do you have any idea what might be causing this. The noise is a rattle but i dont know where its coming from.

im no mechanic so what i would do is post another thread and ask there...someone on here is bound to know whats going on with your car....good luck..these cars are great when they run properly..but with mine there ALWAYS seams to be something..haha but like i said before im attatched to it..and i've dumped so much money into it, it wouldnt be worth it to sell it.

had the same problem with my car man. i thought it was coming fromt he timing belt cover also.. but it wasn't... my oil pump was fried therefore not pumping oil to the engine until 3000 rpm therefore warpin my cylinders and the block therefore needing new engine.. goodluck hope you had better luck than me.. get it to a mechanic asap

you know now that you said something about oil, i know that all cars burn oil, but the smell of it from my car is growing more and more. how much did it cost for the new motor? How much would it be for a new pump? How long would it take for it to seriously wreck the motor?

alright, if you are driving your car, do yourself a favor and put the timing belt cover(s) back on, I assume you only took off the top one, because you have to remove all the accessory belts and the crank pulley to get the lower one off.

Secondly, burning oil could be any number of things. Piston Rings, Valve guides, etc. Oil is finding its way into your combustion chamber and that is how the oil is burnt.

The rattle could be coming from your crank pulley (aka Harmonic Balancer). It is actually a two piece pulley and as old as your car is the rubber that was holding it together has probably cracked and pulled away from the outside piece. Get it checked out now so it doesn't completely separate from your car while you are driving. They you will have a nice time fixing everything if that happens.

i looked at the crank pully and its fine. The thing is that the noise happens once in a while, other times it runs fine. I pulled it apart and i cant find it. I dont know what to do.

also i found after i put eveything back together that my cruse doesn't work. I didn't touch anything that would make that happen. Im really not happy with my car so far.

Just looking at the pulley won't really give you an indication of it separating. You will have to pull the pulley off and it could quite possibly fall apart in your hand, like mine did.

If and when you do pull the pulley off, if you see any indication of it rubbing against your lower timing belt cover, the pulley is separating and needs to be replaced.

it looks really crowded in there is there an easy way to pull it off? is it bolted on or do i need a puller?
