my mom has a 96 intrepid and the sevice advisor said that she is suppost to have the brakes, tranmission and power steering flushed every 15,000 miles in az.now is this true because i have never heard of this and if its not true how often should she have thos things flushed?also is it the same for our car?

the tranny and radiator are a good idea to do...

The tranny if not changed by like 70,xxx miles NEVER CHANGE THE FLUID! It will do nothing but mess it up if you do. Not kidding!

/\ just curious how u are supposed to refill the tranny fluid in a mt, i know the drain and filler plug are underneath the car and the filler plug loks like its impossible to fill unless u got those crazy hose/gun things they use in the shops.

Remove the reverse light sensor. It is on the top of the case in front of the driver side motor mount. You can get a funnel in there and fill it that way. Just drain it, and put in 2.1 qts.

LOL... Too smart for his own good. I never even thought about the reverse light switch. Thanks for the trick. Also, take out fill plug and fill from reverse light switch until it comes out the filler hole.

Why is that? I just bought my car with 77k, and it now has 91k and I checked the fluid and it definately looks like it needs to be changed. BTW, my DSM is automatic.

i herd that your supposed to do it around that or every 3 oil changes from a friend. but i dont, also im not sure if Twin89stangs is talking about a DSM problem with changing the fluid, but in my beater olds, i changed it at 80k and it ran smoother, and didnt have any problems, my 2cents

hey you guys with the n/t manual...you said something about the fill plug, where is it? is it on the back side of the tranny closest to the firewall, or is it on the front of the tranny closest to the radiator?? i wanna put some gm synchromesh in there and i haven't been able to locate the fill plug.

I would not use anything other then the recommended NVT-350 fluid from the dealership (Mopar or Mitsubishi) as it is a 5W30 with a friction modifier and the Syncromesh is somewhere around 75W90. It just isn't what the engineers had in mind when they made our syncronisers...

i thought that people all over this board are using it and love it. i have never heard of anybody having any problems with the synchromesh and they all claim that it works great.

Well, I popped a transmission after a weekend of regular MT Fluid. It was the BG stuff, now that I think about it. It was way too thick, and didn't serve the purposes that it was meant to in my transmission. This is also the consensus at 2GNT. Also the consensus from Dodge, Mitsubishi, GM (a few Saturns had a similar transmission), and New Venture Gear (the people who made the transmission). I do not mean to be a douche, but I don't want anyone to have a bad experience because I kept my mouth shut.

15K might be a little premature on all of those fluids. I think 30K is more like when it needs to be changed. I mean, if you want to change them at 15K, then by all means. Cleaner fluids is always better.

Let me see.... are they going to be charging you for this work? Hmm. Every 15K in AZ now. I guess they think everyone down there got stupid when it turned into such a runaway haven for expatriate Californians.

What's the owner's manual call for, twice that distance?

yah.
