head problem
my car was blowing smoke everywhere so i took off the head thinking it was the head gasket but the gasket was in good shape. i toook the help to get it resurfaced and got it back and bought a felpro head gasket and put it all back together. my car still blows smoke everywhere. blue and white.
should i try buying a new head?
thanks for any help

blue smoke = oil
white smoke = coolant
well since ## gasket and head are good now how was the fire deck on the block (the head gasket sealing surface) ever thought that its probably bur piston rings causing the blue smoke............ cause that would have been mine. also the valve guides and seals could be letting oil by causing the blue smoke too, just some food for thought.

Should have replaced the valve stem seals while the head was off to rule those out.
Do compression test to see the ring's condition. Either way, gonna have to pull it again.

I see you are "with turbo". Have you checked to see if the seals etc, are ok with the turbo? Are you getting oil in the exhaust through the turbo?

true true true.
blue smoke comes from rings, turbos, valve stem seals
white smoke/steam comes from head gaskets, cracked heads and cracked blocks.
black smoke comes from fuel/emissions controls.
did you have your head pressure tested while at the machine shop?
Good Luck

i did have my head pressure tested and it was good. i am going to change the valve seals and see what happens after that. i dont think that would be it if im blowing white smoke to. thanks for the help. also it only does it when it is at its tempature. if it was a seal would it blow smoke as soon as i start up?

Don't quote me on this but I think if it only starts once it is warmed up then there is probably a greater chance of it being a seal. My reason for this being, once the engine is warmed up everything including seals expand. A bad seal could be expanding out of shape or something causing the leak.

yea thats true. im gona change the seals tomorrow and see whats up after that. i heard that when u change your head gasket it will smoke a little for a bit so i decided id drive it but the smoke was rediculous so something is definatly screwed up. ive noticed that when im driving it the smoke is blue but when i come to a stop and it idles the smoke is white. any reasons why that could be? i know what different smoke colors mean but not sure why it would happen like that. thanks

Bad valve seals, in particular, will usually cause the worst smoking after startup.
When the vehicle is shut down, there is an opportunity for any residual oil above the valve seal to seep past the seal and puddle on top of the valve, or if open, onto the piston.

Did you overheat it? Like blow a head gasket and run it low on coolant?
You could have torched your rings and turbo seals.
