max speed in 3rd gear auto

does anybody knows what is the maximum safer speed in the 3rd gear, 92 talon automatic ?...because i dun wanna use my OD switch specially in city driving...and i heared that u can get more power in third gear ...so how about the max speed a 3rd gear can handle? is there a limit to it even if my OD switch is off disabling the 4rth gear?...does any of u automatic guys tried racing without the 4rth gear and still get a reasonable top speed?? if u do what r the top speed of ur 3rd gear with OD switch off?....thanx later ya all!

in my 98 i think i hit about 80-85 i think and i was about red lineing or i was. im not sure if it is the same with yours. but the best thing to do it just try it i guess if noone replys just go up to about 6,000 rpm. and check out the speedometer. sorry i couldnt be to much help but im almost sure 80-85 is about or redlinging it on mine. i had the radio on and i was watching the car beside me

my buddy and I maxed out his talon, its a 95 tsi auto not exactly the same but its just for comparison and he hit the speed limiter of 135 in 3rd

i tried maxing my third earlier around 70mph but still climbing...its just that damn traffic slowed me down..ne ways thanx for the info ...ne thing else about doing red light to red light racing using 3rd gear only? does it really gives out much power compared to using the 4rth gear?

In my 91 talon N/T I've maxed out at about 105 with over drive off, but my engine temp went up alot while doing so. I'm not sure why, and it wasn't to a dangerous level, but it was past the half way point. But yeah, 105 and it was at about 6,500-7,000.... made a nasty sound as if my engine was getting really pissed at me. Once I pushed over drive on though I took off... that was the same night I got to about 120 and then almost hit a deer. , well ya live and ya learn right? I'd say 95mph is a good aim in 3rd, anything above that is a far cry. Oh yeah, and BTW, the car is more powerful with OD off, at least in lower RPM range.
