a guy i talk to on the internet was tellin me he put a ram air kit in his 92 1g n/t talon.. i kinda laughed to myself.. i was just wondering if that is even possible?? and if it is.. WHERE THE F*#K do i get one?

Basically, all he probably did is open up the stock airbox and put in a standard drop in K&N filter or put on a performance intake. Then all you would have to do is pull out the passenger side Headlight, maybe cut away some of the radiator mount to clear more space in front of the intake filter. And presto, you have "Ram Air". The term "Ram Air" is nothing more than getting as much a direct flow of air to the filter and pipe as possible.

weapon-r offers an air intake system for the 92 talon its $185 and there is a ram air conversion you can purchase as well for an aditional $75 i think

Ram Air is easier than that. I have an NT 92 Talon so performance upgrades are pretty limited so I found my own way to make a ram air. All you have to do it pull out the factory air box, slap on a K&N air filter (or any aftermarket highflow element) and it greatly increases intake. To make the ram air part it takes a little inginuety (sp?) When you take out the air box, you will notice a hole that has a pipe comming out of it (the pipe comes out with the air box) that hole leads to the resonator box and that box goes to the front underside of your car (the far left opening in the bumper). What I did was I drilled 5 1inch holes in the resonator box then bought a sheet of thin galvenized (sp again?) steel and molded it to the under side, so in effect any air that goes into the left side of my bumper instead of just going out through my tire well goes strait into the holes in the resonator box up the old pipe and strait into my exposed air filter and into my intake. It works, and it only cost me about 30$ worth of steal, silicone sealant and black spray paint (not including my airfilter and intake pipe).

Hope that helps, if you are up to a "makeshift" job such as that.

Ok, if I had my laptop I could post some pictures, so let me know if this doesn't help and I'll post pictures.

Ok, when you pull out the air box, there is a hole underneath it that had a real short pipe comming out of it into the air box. On Turbo models this is where the wastegate pipe hooks up. On NT models it fits into the old air canister but doesn't go anywhere because it's sealed off under the car.

Facing the car, the bumper has the three big openings in it, the one on the far left is the one you want to look in. If you look in it you should see your tire well and the corner of the resonater box. That is where the wastegate is supose to be mounted, but again there isn't anything there but a sealed empty cavity on NTs. Because the Cavity is SEALED it makes no sense that Mitsubishi hooked the air box up to it. What I did was drilled holes into the exposed corner of that box so it is no longer sealed and air actually gets into it and is pushed up that pipe into the engine compartment right underneath where the airbox use to sit once the car is in motion. If you test it with a vaccum or an air compressor you will feel the air flow comming out through the hole where the pipe use to be. If you position your air element over that it will suck up all the air that is forced in there once the car is moving and it will have a steady flow of air being forced onto it rather than it just sucking up hot air off your manifold and engine. I know this was way too long, but I'm trying to to be vague.

I hope that make morse sense...

I asked Santa for an MR2 and he sriffed me, so I told him I'd settle for a 3000GT VR-4....

ok heres what I did. I cut a 3 inch hole in the front of that box. I put 2-1/2 inch piping from the hole under my intake down to the front of my bumper. then i bought a flat k&N filter and made a tiny air box around it conecting to the piping. thus creating almost a front mount intake. It gave me a throatier sound and i can feel a little bit moe acceleration. when it revs around 5-6 rpms it gives a deep almost vacuum sound. next im gonna try to put one in the center front and possibly the right front so ill have a full bumper intake. This will take a lot of planing and crap.

I would say after havin a makeshift front mount. it was at least noticeable. i can really feel it in 2nd through 4th gears at low rpms. i dont know bout yours but my car lacked acceleration under 3grand but now it revs up quick the whole way through. i hope that answeres your question:confused:

ok what is the black L shaped plastic thing that runs off the air filer can? its flat, it doesn't seem to go to the airbox that you guys are talking about
