let me start off by saying i am new to this whole turbo thing, im having a little problem with my boost controlller, i have went through two different ways to hook this thing up. the first way was to hook the vac lines from the wastgate actuator to the turbo housing, then T it off and go into the controller. that didnt do anything, then i was told to hook the wastgate to the controller input and the controller output to the vac line that goes into the bov. that i got the best results but its still boosting too high. im trying to boost at about 7-8psi (just a safe point) and im getting about 10-15psi....even when i turn the controller all the way down (completely closed), i am stilll getting 10psi, it just climbs a little slower... if there is anyone who can help i would appreciate it..... alex edge

I am assuming its a manual boost controller. If so it should have an in and a out. Hook the IN side of the boost controller to the compressor vac line. Hook the out to the wastedgate. There should be no tees needed that are not already there(such as fuel pressure regulator signal). Basically you are just cutting the line that went from the compressor to the wastegate and installing the boost controller inline.

Just looked at your profile. Are you non intercooled? If so i am not sure that I would mess with 8 psi without an intercooler. I just cant tell from the pic but it looks like your piping goes straight to the throttle body.

Agreed, 8psi is kinda steep for no intercooler IMO..What size is your waste gate spring?

thanks alot crab1092, ill give it a try. as for you other guyes, sorry that i dont know much but why is a intercooler needed. i thought that was just for colder air/more power? i was planning on putting in the intercooler but i was going to wait untill i got the car running good. you see i just bought the car and its my first turbo. what kind of boost should i be looking for right now? let me know what you know. as for the waistgate spring, i have no clue. i bought the car and the kid had it all on there, the kid new less then me and didnt have anything going right on the car.

Yes the intercooler cools down the hot air from the turbo. But not only for more power, also for knock prevention. The reason i ask what size your waste gate spring is, The boost controller can only raise boost not lower it. So in other words, I think its safe to say you can just remove the boost controller. You can test you waste gate by hooking the vacuum line off the waste gate to a hand air pump(w/gauge) and pump pressure in the line in till you hear the waste gate valve open. That will tell you what size spring you have.(e.x. if it opens at 5psi you have a 5psi spring). Hope this helps :thumb:

cool. thanks alot for your help. im going to try all of this as soon as i get the time, as you can prob tell, im not driving this car yet. so after i check this spring and its too much, i could go buy a different spring right? and after that lets say i get a 5psi spring, would i be able to boost higher then 5 with the boost controller? im in no hurry to get this car on the road, i rather it all be done the right way other then rushing it and screwing something up. im going to start looking into the intercooler also.

Yes you should be able to change the spring, And yes you can use that the boost controller to turn it up from there. The way a boost controller works is it bleeds off boost pressure, so say if you set the boost controller at 10 psi and you have a 5 psi spring it would bleed off 5psi so the waste gate only sees 5 psi.:thumb: (thats the best way i can explain it anyway, If anybody thinks they can do better please do so)

haha no thats ok i get it,i will be sure to let you know how everything goes. if i have anymore questions later on i will give you a message. thanks alot. looks like i have shopping to do. ttalk to you all later

Put a line directly from the boost source to the wastegate, eliminating the boost controller all together, then go from there. The MBC is only another variable at this point.

Let us know what psi that puts you at.

I think at this point it would be smarter to test his waste gate to see where it is opening at so don't have to over boost the motor anymore then he has too. And i think i already told him to take the MCB off..;)

ya i will try taking it off today and see what happens. like i said im not driving the car at all. the only time i drive it is in between the changes that i make. i will keep you all updated

hey guyes, wasnt able to get to it today, the car is about an hour away from me at my parents house ### i dont have anywhere to put it at my house

Yes i would agree with just about everything said above. If you have a 15psi spring the controler will not lower your preasure. I have a turbonetics mbc and i had to T in the boost signal from my compressor and that went to the in port and the out went to the top port on my wastegate. As far as an intercooler you definately need it. It not only keeps the temp down to stop knock and make beter power but you said you wanted to get your car running correctly first, If you get it running one way and then through an ic at it you could possibly change something and need to readjust. If you have it install it and then diagnose the rest of the problems you may have. And on a side note wg springs dont cost that much and depending on what wg you have i may have a spring

it is a internal wastgate.... im working on collecting up the cash for an IC... funds are low right now, got to pay the bills first.....

ya i seen those on there, thats where i get everything. i found a couple that where about 150 shipped and that comes with everything i would need...

Yes, but a bar and plate design is more effient and you can find them for the same price.

Most auctions don't state which is which last time I looked. Most of the cheap ones on there (200 and under) are tube and fin. I used a tube and fin fmic for 3 months before I hit a deer and it worked just fine and it was cheap.
