ok i need to know this before i go out and buy this motor. i have a 420a 98 talon 5 speed. i went to a junk yard and found a 97 esi 420a motor. im thinking of buying this motor/ 97 420a and rebuild it in my school for my 98 talon. ganna make it a performance motor. i want to know if my 98 ecu will work on the 97 motor. and if theres a bunch of things i haft to change for it to work in my car. or if i can just put it in.. o and im sending my ecu to jet for reprogram soon should i wait till new motor is in or will i be ok. thanks i hoope i didnt confuse people.

The ECU will work fine with your new block.

Also, do some research regarding having your ECU "re-programmed." Only a very few companies actually have that capability, and Jet isn't one of them. With your research, you might find that whatever it is they do to the ECU isn't worth your time or money.

Don't. Waste of money and you could possibly damage your engine and it is a waste of a perfectly good ECU.:notgood:

thanks for the help. what should i do my limiter cuts car out at 120. whats the best thing i should do. no one that i know of makes a reprogramer for my talon. i dont think theres a plug an play system out there is there?

Our motor in stock form seems to "run out of air" at anything over 120 mph, but we don't have a limiter. I think all the 4G63 DSM's (except the GSX) came with a speed limiter though.

There is a plug an play but only for the 97 MTX (AFX ECU). The best option, IMO, is MegaSquirt n' Spark. It will require some learnin' on your part though.

maybe it just runs outta umph...maybe you can get the ecu from the wrecked car to play with. or try swapping it with your car. maybe some how your ecu has a speed limit cut off, and this other one doesnt. from what i know cars are speed limited by tire capability, if your car didnt have tires rated over 120mph from the factory it would be limited to the speed rating of the tire.

built up the new motor. learn as much as you can just in case you have to do it again. save $ for supporting mods, things you might not see coming.

Yea bro my talon did the same thing but at 130 (unless my speedometer is wrong).
I was i 5th gear and the tack read 5k i still had a long way before hitting the rev limiter (aka fuel cut). I believe we do have a speed limiter. Well thats a little bit of info from me. Hope someone out there know whats up with this.:thumb:

Our cars do not have electronically programmed speed limiters....We have one mechanical one unless you went turbo...Our engines just don't have the power to fight the wind.

hey thanks guys for the help. im ganna look into why my car runs out of umph at 120. i have a long ways till my car redlines. ill post any info i find about this. thanks again everyone

You don't have enough power to beat the wind. The drag on your car is too much for your engine to put more power to the ground.

May I ask WHY you NEED to go faster than 120 in a 55? Our airbags are know for not deploying so try and drive safe.

To my knowledge the AFX ecu was the only reprogrammed ECU and its no longer made/programmed. I dont think Howell still does it.

Our cars have no limiter. In fact mine does 140 quite easily when i bought it. Dont ask why, it was to prove a stupid point.

ya i know its not smart on the street but its the hole bragging thing i guess. ive fallen baak a bit from street racing lost some friends to it and been to court way to many times. i have 0 points on license and id like to keep it that way. LOL. again thanks everyone for help

Yeah I never got why people on here try to act like saints when people start talking about going fast. Especially when your fwd runs from a roll are more common and if your making enough power 120 will come up pretty fast if you have the mods that most of you have;)
