today I took off my heat shield and noticed 3 small cracks on my exhaust manifold. Do I need to get this fixed right away? am I losing any power or anything.

I would recommend getting it repaired, but there is no rush. The greatest problem with this will likely be unwanted noise. If the cracks are large enough, you can get fresh air in the exhaust system pre-o2, which will cause you to run rich. Small cracks turn into large cracks though, so when you do get it repaired, make sure the cracks are stop-drilled prior to being welded.

An aftermarket header would be more expensive than having your factory manifold repaired. If you want something that may add power, get the 4-2-1 or 4-1 header. If aextra power doesn't matter much to you, save the cost and have your factory manifold repaired.
It's really up to you.
how much extra power would a header add? I have also read on the 4-1 header you lose a little bit and on the 4-2-1 adds more pull I could of read wrong though. Does The sound of you exhaust get deeper with adding a header?
Paul, add the potential cost of shipping to a used manifold, and see if it compares to having the stocker repaired. We repaired 3 horrible cracks in a 4g63 manifold for far less than we could find one for in a scrap yard. I would suppose this is all situational, though. Results may vary.
4-1's are efficient in the higher RPMs - hence the feeling of lost power or no gain on the street, whereas 4-2-1's are efficient in nearer the middle of the RPM range. 4-2-1 gains are typically noticed during daily driving, while the 4-1 benefits more in racing situations.
The gain is not great. There are better first mod's that would make better use of your money, IMO.
Generally, exhaust note will sharpen with any properly collected tube header.
how does this header look?

Does anyone here have a non name brand header? Do I also need the down or will a header bolt up to the oem parts?
Ebay headers are fine by me. They come with the flex pipe. I like to get the ones that have the bolt together connection (as opposed to the slip fit).

Both are the "Slip fit" type of headers. They will work, but they have been known to provide an exhaust leak around the joint.
should I search of a bolt up header instead?
i say do some stainless steel headers since u have this problem. try ebay serch for some good ones off ebay in the forms. my friend put some on his RS. they helped the power a bit and the look.
