The power steering belt is the easiest one to change. Losing or breaking the power steering belt will not a harm a thing, it will just be extremely hard to turn LOL. If you are new to DSM's and don't already own a haynes manual for it, Then I advise you get one. My 2gnt is my favorite of all my cars but I must say I'm always fixing something LOL. When you replace any belt you need to find out why the old belt snapped or fell off becase if an idler pulley or a tensioner is shot, then it will just keep throwing the new belts as well.

Careful when you snap it. Pull off the road and make sure the actual belt is off and gone.

The biggest, MAJOR risk from this is having the belt thrown off into the path of your timing belt. That's when BAD things can happen..

You won't have to worry about the belt going into the timing belt if you have the stock cover over it still.

I would suggest getting a Haynes manual as well. When replacing it, there is a tensioner to loosen on the side and then a screw to adjust the tension. I would go more indepth, but the Haynes manual has pictures and step by step so just go get one of those instead.

Yep, and if you're dumb enough to run it without that cover you deserve T-belt damage unfortunantly.

As stated already nothing happens when you lose that belt. Only downfall is that when you lose it your PS is gone(obviously) as well as cold A/C.

When it's re-installed the tension is very important. Not enough and at high rpm's it's coming off.

it's a 13-15 dollar belt at auto zone, and about a 15 minute job.... no damage should be done at all. and if you leave it off... you'll actually pick up about 2-3ponies.

thanks guys... replaced it fine and will pick up a manual when i get more money.
