Are these parts interchangable between the dsm 420a and a neon 420a?
Hi everybody I've tried searching for an answer to this question, but I haven't really found any specific answer, so if there's already a thread about this somewhere that I didn't see then my bad. I have a friend who has a Neon, I'm not sure of the exact year but it's somewhere between '96-'98, 2.0 DOHC which is the 420a motor correct? He told me he has aftermarket cam gears, cams, rods and pistons, as well as the rest of the parts necessary to turbo his neon including a t3 turbo and a FMIC. He mentioned that he might be getting rid of these parts and that he would sell them to me at a very very reasonable price (like $500 bux for the entire setup with turbo and FMIC), so I'd like to know if at least the cam gears, cams, rods and pistons would work on my '95 talon N/T. I'm sorry I don't know any specific details about the parts that in question other than that he said they're performance parts. I figured I'd at least find out if they'll work on my car at all, and if they would then I'll post more details about them. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

well just becareful here....I'd say most of the internals should work...but your going to have to understand that everything on the neon is reversed since their motor is rotated 180 degrees comopared to ours.
So your FMIC core should work, but you are going to have to get new piping, a new downpipe is probably in order as well.
The only thing I woudl be really carful of is anything electrical. some things from the 95's don't work with the later model 420a's...but I don't think your getting any of that stuff.

The dodge neon turbo manifold might not work either.

Thanks a lot for your responses. To BigRand: thanks for the info, but do you know or have heard of anybody that has tried using neon internals on a talon n/t, or are you going on the basis that they're the same motor so they should work? I know from reading other posts by you and by your reputation that you're very knowledgable about DSMs, especially N/T's, so sorry for asking but I'm really trying to know for sure before I spend the money and dive into this project. Thanks to FUH8ERS as well.

As long as your going with low compression, I know the JE pistons and the Eagle rods are interchangeable from neon to the eclipse 420A. SOHC or DOHC they are the same parts.
Should be the same with other brands as well.
I know that with crower camshafts the neon and the eclipse are different part#'s.

Hi as long as its a DOHC neon all of the parts will work, actually most parts we sell for the eclipse 420a are listed as DOHC Neon, the manifold will bolt up but check the placment of the outlet flange, youll need to refab up charge piping since the layout is totally different..

As far as I know and have personally seen....any DOHC neon 420a motor looks the exact same as any 420a eclipse motors. but feel free to second guess me anytime.....its your money, your motor....better safe than sorry I always say.

Thanks guys. Don't worry I wasn't trying to second guess you BigRand I just want to make absolutely sure that these parts will work. And from what 4U8HERS and cimotorsports have said, along with your original response, I'm getting the feeling that this might be possible. Even with that said, I definitely think I'm going to wait to see if a few more people to input their feelings about this before I drop the money on all these parts.

Aside from the cams (which I suspect you could resell on Neons.org for about $250+), you should be able to use the rest of that stuff. Be sure to find out if those pistons are twenty over or whatnot so you can have your blockbored accordingly. I suspect the manifold will boltup, but I can't promise anything. Your IC piping will definitely need reworking, but for $500, it's a hell of a deal. Go for it.
