So I noticed my car over heating and boiling water coming out of the overflow tank. I noticed my fan wasn't on. So I looked the fuse was blown. I replaced it and it went in a few seconds. I then noticed my cooling fan was off track and just sitting there. I tried placing it back on the spindle and the fan would try to spin but it kept falling off. I am aware that if the motor stalls it causes a short but would that be the reason that the fuse keeps blowing. I am going to take off the cooling fan and see whats up and probably just replace it.

ALso are 2gnt and 2g turbo fans the same?

If it shorts then yes, the fuses is probably blown as a result from that. Although, electronics aren't my strongpoint, so I'm sure Paul will chip in sometime or another...

Anyways, I would replace the fan altogether. If you are having problem with it falling off the spindle the risk of it happening again is... well... the odds are against you. Put it that way. If it falls off when you are traveling and don't have ample time to notice, the head could be damaged or warped from overheating.

I have spares of both fans if you are in need. One (drivers side) is missing the harness, I had to snag it off to solder up my thinner aftermarket fan. Although, they can easily become of use with some simple wire and solder. PM me if you are interested. Sorry mods, don't meen to post this as a sale. Just trying to help a fellow DSMer out if worst comes to worse.

If the motor stalls, it causes a short? I've never heard such a thing... you'll have to elaborate a little.

If there is a short, however, a fuse will usually blow, unless whatever is causing the short has more resistance thant the intended load.

I concur with Blitz's statement; if the fan is broke, just replace it.

There's no harm in offering free parts to help another DSMer out. Feel free to do so anytime.

I will end up replacing the fan but I can get a free fan off of my buddy who has a 98 GSX does anyone know whether 2g turbo fans will work?

I would suspect that, given the on-off-nothing-in-between nature of these fans, they run a simple 12vdc connection. (Through a fan relay...) If you can get a free one to try, there's no harm in trying.

Try to bolt up the GST fan first. If you can get it installed, then focus on the electrical side of things. It could be as simple as cutting off the connectors and splicing yours onto the GST fan.

Good luck, man. :thumb:

Good news for me it bolted right up and the harnesses matched and it worked. the teeth of the factory fan were all broken off.

Its funny mitsu tried to tell me they were two different fans and wanted $250 and said that because the engine faced the other direction it wouldn't work. I said no it faces the same direction but the tranny is on the passengers side and the guy argued with me. It just goes to show you how ### the dealership is :notgood:

i dont see how the orientation of the engine has anything to do with the fans, or why satan would mention it.

Kick him in his nutz.

Good that it worked out for you, either way.
