Ok I got my plans laid out gona go all motor since the CHP likes to pop hoods and will by next year I'll have all my Bolt-ons on my 420a.

My question is can I do any upgrades to the inside of the motor at a later date and still pass the smog such as pistons 10.5 no bore no stroke no hone?

I may buy a port and polished head w slow-boys stage 2 I don't know about that either as I have been told by a shop that increased airflow may cause a fail if not done right

I have read that cams cause a fail as well so I'm gona stay away from those.

Am I in for a nightmare if I do any internal work I can live with just bolt-ons and save up for a real car if I hafta :sosad:

And no I don't wanna smog under the table, thnx for thinking about it tho.

Guys if any of ya have gone down this path and know for sure what will fail the smog please let me know because I don't wanna wast my time and or money...Next car I buy out of state!

Thanx guys sorry if I may be bugging any of you with these old ass questions :beatentodeath: but I really gotta know what works what don't.

Just out of curiosity, what would the CHP find wrong with a turbo motor on the 420a platform? I dont' quite understand how strict they are down there? I guess you can't really put a carb sitcker on the turbo can you?

The reason is they did not come from the factory with it and any after market part that goes on a car in California must be CARB (California Approved) Certified that it will not pollute the air.
See they test the aftermarket part in California labs to see if it will allow more smog in the air and it cost a parts maker around $60,000 to have it tested in California that is the reason that many after market companys don't sell their parts here or to us and if they do it is only good for off road use only if it has not been tested by the California Air Resources Board.
I don't mind a non turbo but I still at the very least wish to have a quick car and California like laws are spreading like wildfire so don't think you are going to be spared all states are catching hell from the EPA and Congress to clean up their air or else lose federal funding.

They are so strict they set up a task force to look for stuff like that and a car that's tricked out rims stickers big ol wings will get pulled over and checked to see what mods he has done to his car.

One more thing nope can't put a sticker on cop my try to verify by phone or net they have lap tops in some cars.

I just found a place that can my port and polish so it will still be able to pass the smog:thumb:

Yo!!! Anybody know how far I can push this little motor w/o smog problems???
I knew I shoulda bought a Camaro Z28 instead of a junky ol eclipse.......

I dont know how strict california is compared to texas but i know when i baught my car it passed emissions in texas with all the mods i have now minus the 3" test pipe i have on there now, it had a 3" maxflow cat back then.
