alright i've done a decent amount of searching on here and gotten some good info, but a lot of it is confusing.

i have a 95 Talon ESi and would appreciate some info on these possible upgrades:

ignition coil: MSD Blaster Coil or Screamin Deamon? Pros and Cons?

plug wires: most likely getting MSD 8.5s, but what about Morosos or others?

plugs: so far I see lots of bad stuff about the Bosch Platinum +4s, the NGKs seem to be the way to go. But what model do I get for my setup?

thanks in advance for the help! -Chris

I would get the screaming demon coil as the msd is just a replacement part and not a higher performance part or so they advertise. As far as wires, you'd probably get similar results from any of the high performance brands. I have taylor spiro pro 8mm wires on my 1g, they are really nice but i didn't notice any performance gains from the ngks that where on there.NAPA has the belden wires that are really nice and in some apllications also come in 8mm. MSD are always nice too. My buddies haven't had good luck with the accel wires. Don't expect alot if any noticeable performance gains out of these two mods either. If I where you after looking at your mod list, I would get the AFX underdrive pulley before the coil and wires. Best 2gnt mod, right after the intake IMHO. I had it on my 2gnt and it really woke the 420a up. Your car looks really nice BTW. keep up the good work.

PS. as far as plugs. I liked the champions in my 2gnt. I burnt a set of bosch platinums in 10k miles, they are garbage IMO. NGK or champions, no platinum, just good ol fashioned $1.49 spark plug will get you there. gap them to manufacturer specs, don't listen to the computer jockey behind the desk.

hey thanks for the advice and the compliment.

I didn't know the MSD coil was basically a replacement part. hah, and it's more expensive than the screamin deamon... i did read however something about the stock coil putting out 36k volts whereas the screamin deamon has 40k.

I figured as much about the wires, not expecting anything special, just figured if upgrading the other parts might as well do the wires too.

and thanks for the tip on the plugs. i'll just head to the local advanced auto and get some ngks or champions.

also, i'm not really expecting to get much power gain out of these upgrades. if i do it'll be a pleasant surprise, but i mainly want to do it because the car is 11 years old, 107k miles, and i don't know when if ever any of these things were replaced (i bought it at 87k 3.5 years ago). it feels a little sluggish at times, moreso than i think it should with the mods i've got, and hopefully this will perk it up some. and yes i plan on getting an AFX UDP sooner or later haha.

update:

i have found a screamin demon ignition coil that i want, but it says it is only available in the flat prong style (96.5-99)... can only find it sold from howell automotive so far

msd blaster ignition coils are much easier to find, they're available in the late model flat prong or the 95-96.5 round prong that I need. But i'd much rather get the sceamin demon.

1) does anyone know if there's a screamin demon coil sold for the early model 2g??? if so, where? i've checked howell, summit, modern performance, ebay, and a few others i could think of and no luck.

2) is there an adaptor that will accept the early model harness and plug into the late model coil pack?

3) any other 420A guys using either of these ignition coils? how do you like yours and whats your opinion?

mods, this thread has been up for a few days and only 15 views and 1 response. i realize it belongs here in the 420 section, but the fact is hardly anyone sees my questions here and i get no help:( . i was hoping to have more people see it and respond in the newbie area, is it alright to move it back? i still don't think i have permission to start threads in this area anyway...

I have the MDS coil pack and MSD 8.5mm plug wires. Looks good, functions good. Didn't really notice anything different or better. Quicker response maybe at most. Basically I just got them because the stock crap needed replacing.

As for the connector, the only thing I could think of is splicing the flat style connector onto the 95 harness unless there is some adapter out there no one knows about.

I'm also using the msd setup, both plugs and coil pack, and sadly there really isn't a noticable difference. Although I did need a new coil pack, I wouldn't recommend this if your looking for power gains.

Bosch platniums are indeed not good for our cars. A lot of people go the route of ngk iridiums, just make sure you gap them accordingly...

Just my in experience of reading over this board, and personal experience. expect your msd coil pack to one day go out. And if your lucky like me it will only be one coil lead not firing so you can at least drive on 3 cylinders (makes it sound like a subaru). But if your really lucky nothing will happen at all. Just keep the stocker around.

cool thanks for the advice guys. and yeah 95 talon owner i thought about going to the junk yard and looking for a 97-99 420A and cutting the harness off it to swap with mine. i've spliced many things before but i think this would be the one with the biggest consequences if i messed up somehow haha. i wish i could find that screamin demon in the early model though because as you guys have said, the MSD looks better than the stocker but it is hardly better than a replacement part and apparently it may not be as reliable.
