Has anyone turbo'd an automatic 420a?

Has anyone ever put a Turbo kit on a automatic 420a eclipse?
I am about to order a stage2 t3/t4, Is that a good turbo for that 420a engine or is it too big? Will it run okay with my auto tranny? :dsm: Moclipse
 
A turbosystem has little to do with the transmission. Pretty much any turbo kit will work for either an M/T or A/T; and plenty of people have put turbo's on their A/Ts.

Where are you ordering this kit from, by the way?
 
Well I know that the turbo doesn't effect the tranny but I meant all the extra tourqe and stuff on that crappy auto tranny...and I was mostly curious on how the car ran with the auto. as far as 1/4 mile times and performance, I have NOS on it now and its pretty quick but its too unreliable, and I have to drive to SUMMIT every month to get a new bottle of NOS at $45 dollars a tank. The tranny seems to handle it fine though. My friend said the auto will help keep the boost up during shift's. I just wanted to talk with other guys running a turbo on thier 420a auto to see what kind of experiences they have had with the car. I bought the car back in 1998 brand new and it is a very durable car but its ....just SLOW. The other day I ran out of NOS and a cavalier beat me........:barf:

Is this a crappy kit ? should I go with the HCR? this one is 1000 dollars cheaper, But it has NO port fueler
 
Hey I'd skip the Walbro 255l Fuel Pump and get the supra fuel pump it supposidly pumps 260l and it's MUCH quieter.
 
So it's the CI kit? Despite what some people have said, I like Concept lllusions. However, I do not think I would buy their turbo kit. Custom was the only choice for me, because of all the components I wanted. The only semi-complete kit I would buy, would be from The Street Source (who made my manifold). If I had to buy a complete kit, it would definitely be from HRC. The CI kit looks nice, and the price is right, but I don't think they put enough R&D into it like Hahn.

Your auto tranny will be fine. Both the M/Ts and A/Ts were built surprisongly strong originally. Your friend was right about "keeping the boost up" in that the butteryfly valve in the throttle body never closes since you never have to shift. This means there is a continuous flow of exhaust gas, and thus, the turbo remains spooled. For this reason, some turbo/auto cars opt not to use a BOV (although I still think it's a good idea to have one).
 
I would definately go with hrc if buying a complete kit. I believe that building your own custom kit is the way to go though. get the specific parts you want the first time.

Oh I never knew that CI had a bad reputation. I'm not lookin for someting much faster than the nitrous ....just more consistant.
Where can I get a supra fuel pump?
 
What do you mean BUILD a custom kit?? Where do I get all the stuff? Is it gunna cost twice as much? I'm new to all this ...I do alot of custom body work and interiors but Im new to the engine mods.

I believe all there syaing is get a kit then trade other parts in. For example if the kit comes with a Walboro fuel pump, buy the Supra pump and seel the Walboro.

Not at all what we are saying.

Building a custom kit is quite simple, you just buy the parts that it takes to make a complete kit individually. It is actually cheaper and you can get better parts, ones that suit your desires and preferences.
 
Yeah i would like to build my own kit...as far as hoses and fittings, But I just don't know what parts I need exactly. I wish I had a Manual for one of these other kits so I could just copy the same parts they have. Do any of you guys have an auto/turbo in your car?
 
yes building your kit is definately cheaper thats what im working on but take your time ive been on mine for like 5 months but ive found really great deals and bargains, and if i might suggest a turbo for you, i bought mine from master power they had the best turbo prices around and there charts showed some good power gains, they rebuild most of there turbos and they can probably get you whatever you want plus they polished mine to give it that chrome look for free
 
...umm yeah, you could have done better than a Master Power turbo. I don't expect it to last very long once you do indeed get it running...that's just from all the research and talk that has been done in the past about them.
 
really? dam and i paid 550 dollars for it to.... its rebuilt do you still think it will do bad?
