ok, here's the question i pose to you guys....will a 2.0L 420A head mount to a 2.4L block. think i read about someone doing this, but don't remember if i did or was just imagining. thanks for your help and comments

which would be better, a 2.0L head with 2.4L block, or the other way around?

2.0 because the 2.4L cams are backwards because the intake is on front and exhaust on rear. 2.0 also has better cams. I think the only difference is the cams but email The1Bill hes THE 2.4L man.

thanks evulflea, think i am going to stick with the 2.0 head and block.

Whoops, well, here I am, albeit a little late. Yes, the 2.0 head bolts to the 2.4 block, but there are a few issues that need to be worked out. You must use 2.4L headbolts, as the 4 corner bolts are longer on the 2.4, and the 2.0 won't even thing about grabbing the threads. The next issue is that the lower water pipe from the 2.0 block doesn't bolt up for support. I took a 1/4" thick piece of steel and cut it small, and drilled it. I bolted this to the block, and tapped a hole to bolt the pipe to the plate. Presto, now it is all nice and secure. Next, the oil pan doesn't quite work with the crossmember or the exhaust downpipe. You could make a new crossmember, new oil pan, or hack up a stock pan. If you modify a stock pan, you will need to extend your downpipe. The accessory brackets don't quite work. I recommend having custom brackets made up for whichever accessories that you use. The last issue is the passenger side motor mount. The 2GNT mount won't work on the motor mount bracket that bolts to the block, and the 2.0 bracket doesn't bolt to the 2.4 block. A custom mount could be made from steel or such. It isn't an easy undertaking, but I am working on making a kit for this with someone. If you have any further questions, feel free to ask.

thanks b. sounds like it is quie an undertaking, but i think i am just going to stick with the whole 2.0L cause i already have a whole one sitting in the garage. i think i'll just play with it. i'm gonna bore it .020 and put in 9:1 J&E pistons. should i shave the head and block? if so, how much on each? i am planning on dropping in a stage 2 hahn kit, which i just recently found out from them that once i put the internals in the engine i will basically have their stage 3 kit which is rated at around 300-325 hp @ 12-13psi boost. plus doing it my way i save about $700 and have the same stuff if not better than what they are offering. well, thanks and happy posting!

Are you talking about the 2.4 in the Chrysler minivans or the 2.4 (4G64) in the current eclipse and galants? The 420a head will not fit the 4G64 block, you'd need the 4G63 head for that. I don't know about the minivan engine. I've seen those swapped into Neons so I'm sure it could be done to a 420 eclipse.
Also I wouldn't shave the head or block if you're running a turbo setup. The increased compression ratio may cause detonation problems if youre running more than 10-11psi.

There, he's here. :)

Yeah, I am here. hehe... And yes, I am referring to the 2.4L Chrysler engine from the Stratus/Caravan...

Sounds like a cool idea, mix it with a Hahn kit and chase down some GS-Ts. Keep us updated on how it goes.

I should be downing GS-Ts without the turbo. I am looking at mid to high 14 second passes with no forced induction. This is entirely speculatory, as I have not raced it like this, but from the numbers (101.3 MM stroke) I should be making 2.6 assloads of torque (assloads is now a standard measure of torque).
