A few questions about my 96 GS

Hey guys I just recently purchased a 96 GS with 114k on it. It runs pretty good, but has a little miss sometimes. Also the ride is really bumpy and it hits bumps hard.

I plan on doing some "basic" up keep on it. I will be changing the plugs, plug wires, new shocks/struts/coilovers, header back exhaust, brake pads, and rotors turned. So here are my questions:

1) What plugs would you recommend getting? I was thinking of some NGK Iridium.

2) What plug wires would you recommend? I say some on e-bay the are 9mm for like $25. Or should I spend the extra $30 and get some NGK?

3) What shocks/struts would you recommend? I plan on doing about a 1-1.5" drop on 17"s. I was thinking about KYB AGX.

4) What size piping should I go with on the exhaust?

5) Around how much should I look to pay for getting rotors turned?

iridium-$$$$$
springs i like my eibach prolines
exhaust -cheapest is to get a stock gst exhaust
wires looks for lowest imediance such as the msd wires
shocks mine has kyb agx's, couldnt be happier
tires yokohama prada spec II's- i like them

Well the car came with a header (not sure what brand) and a APC muffler/tip. It doesn't sound bad, but I figured I might as well open it up a little to let it breath and put the header and muffler to good use. I was thinking of 2.5" Header back.

As far as tires I have 17" Motegi's with Kumho Ecsta's on them.

apc muffler=autozone special
get something that doesnt sound like a chainsaw
being NA though i wouldnt go much bigger than stock or you will lose some low end

like i said earlier a gst exhaust will give about as much improvement on a NA car as an expensive pipe

Yeah I wasn't so sure about the APC muffler when I was looking at the car. It actually sounds pretty good though. I will replace it with a magnaflow later though. Right now I am mostly worried about the shocks/struts and plugs/plug wires

When you say gst exhaust do mean just the axle back piping/muffler or the full gst piping and gst muffler?

do you have the SPORTlines or the pro KIT? no prolines...

just the muffler. the piping on the turbo and non turbo's are the same. the only difference is the turbos have another resonator right before the muffler. so it will be alittle louder than stock with a GS-T muffler. both NT and turbos have 2" inside diameter piping. 2.25 inch if you count the width of the pipe.

Well this is my daily driver so I don't want to drop a bunch of money into the car. Basically just small things. Susp, exhaust, intake, header, plugs/plug wires. About it really. I needed a car to drive and be reliable so I can keep miles off my Civic.

P.S. Before anyone starts abou the Civic thing: I have a 91 Civic Si Hatchback with a 97 SOHC Vtec fully "built". Running 10.5:1 c/r and soon to have about 12lbs of boost running through it. I had my Civic first so I modded it. After the motor in my "new" eclipse starts getting old/worn out I will begin building a new motor for it.

pfff if you were trying to impress us you failed!

jk nice work man. run it at the track yet? should give you some good times since it weight like 47lbs. any slips?

EDIT: oh yeah, people arent gonna give you shit for building up a honda like that. now if your main mods were a big wing, altezzas and spinners, then you might get some shit.

Make sure you do a lot of searching before you drop the cash on a suspension kit. Some people like the KYB's, others say they are shit. if your looking for a really nice ride from springs, stick with the Eibach Prokit for springs. As for shocks, since its your daily driver and you already have a anothe modded car, you probably don't want to go to expenisve, but what a nice ride. I've heard really good things about the tokicko illumina's on the Prokit springs, but like I said you should do a lot of searching, and asking on the suspension forum.

Yup, it all depends on what you're looking for really. I ended up going with the Tokico Advanced Handling Suspension Kit which included the Illumina 5-way adjustable shocks, and Tokico's high performance lowering springs...I couldn't be any happier

Not yet the track her is closed till late Feb. I just sold my turbo kit for $900. Couldn't help it had to have the money. Not to sure if I will go back turbo on it or not. Now I am thinking of nitrous. I might save the money and buy a turbo kit for the GS and get a little 75-100 shot for the Civic. Then again with about 4k in engine parts I want to put them to good use
